Horrible Ending

Happened to see this streaming and haven't seen it in awhile so i watched it. I did shut it off after her hospital interview. I hate the ending, so no need to waste my time.

It was a really good movie until the time she shows up home. Its like they went to lazy writing and lets hurry this ending up. The investigation wasn't one if you ask me. Her story was a joke. Only the detective noticed, knew and asked questions. What a farce.

Maybe i hate it so much cuz theres no way id live with her, id be getting a immediate divorce and id tell the world the inconsistencies of her story and tell them what i know. If they believe her oh well. Better than being with her crazy ass.

Again, great movie to until the end.

The wrapup of the case was probably more detailed in the book, but the very last scene was chilling indeed.

He stayed out of sheer terror, knowing that she could and would unleash all the demons in hell upon him, and that a reconciliation had done nothing but buy him a little time, because there's no way she'd want to keep him around forever. We left him a trapped man, knowing that his life and freedom depended on the whim of a psychopath...

reply

I disagree. She had no power. Yes the movie tries portraying that. But she didn't.

Her so called rape by Desi. So she had to delete footage. Which they'd know happened. Why would Desi need to delete it if she was tied up. Kinda convenient all the footage is only what shes telling. Everything else deleted. Plus what she didn't delete she wasnt tied up. So why stay. If killing was that easy, alot of murderers would be going scott free.

He stayed because of his child. Not terror. I didn't even watch the end, but i remember it. He stayed cuz she was pregnant with his child.

I didn't read book so I can't talk about that. I probably should read the book.

reply

No power? Bitch please!

She's incredibly creative at coming up with ways to ruin people's lives, no normal human would ever be able to outthink her or foil her plans before the hammer falls, because her mind doesn't work like a normal person's. No, even if you know what she's capable of there's no way to defend yourself against the invite variety of fuckery she can bring down, except maybe to go live under a bridge and devote your life to fantanyl.

reply

Lol. Internet idiot & tough person. Never ran into one before. Oh my, what shall i do next.

Its a wonder why imdb shut its forums down. Hmmm, if i could just put my finger on the reason. I swear its on the tip of my tongue.

I prefer to devote my life to guns, ammo, my own home and reality.

reply

Wow. You really won’t accept any answer, will you? If anyone provides a reasonable explanation, you’ll just call them an idiot because they don’t agree with you.

reply

I called him a idiot and internet tough guy from the way he spoke to me. Had nuttin to do with accepting or not accepting what he said.

You needing me to explain that really? And expect me to listen to anything intangible from you. Right.

You bark at me about not accepting or changing my opinion, yet why dont you take some of your own advice. I find that funny about people. See it in religion and religious people. My gods better than yours, if you don't try to change my way then your wrong

reply

Yeah. There’s no reasoning with you whatsoever. You said something that was obviously not true, and that person went into more detail than they should have had to and yeah, being in this position myself I can see why they would be frustrated.

The only idiot I see in this conversation is you.

reply

[deleted]

Accidentally deleted this. But here it is again.

So, I'm a idiot because my opinion is different than yours? Because I won't reason with what you want?

I didn't say anything thats not true, i said something that you don't agree with and you continue throw a fit over it.

Your acting like I don't get what the stories about. I didn't agree with their direction. That doesn't mean i don't understand the story. Why don't you settle down before you hurt yourself.

And my world has changed soo much, what shall i do. Take back calling me a idiot. I can't stand the stress & pressure from everyone at my door thinking I'm an idiot. Its too much. Make it stop. Oh wait, its just you. And I'm sure you have Otter in your corner.

reply

No, you are willfully an idiot because you won’t acknowledge certain facts about a story in a movie. I couldn’t care less if you liked it or not, it’s okay if you didn’t like it. But at least be intellectually honest about it.

You did say something that wasn’t true. You said Amy doesn’t have any power. That couldn’t be further from the truth. She has public opinion on her side. She has the media on her side. Everyone loves missing women, especially missing women who happen to have had a whole children’s book series based on them that the public grew up with. She has power because men are more likely to be suspected of a crime than women are. The police and the FBI were afraid of being roasted by the media and losing their credibility if they dared to question the narrative. That’s why she won. And even if they did show more skepticism and investigate more into what really happened, she’s three steps ahead of them. She thinks of everything. That’s Amy’s character in a nutshell, which you would’ve understood if you watched the movie to the end, which I reread your original post and you said you didn’t do that.

So yes, I totally stand by my statement that you do not understand this movie at all. I will even go a step further and presume that you do not want to understand it. You just want a reason to dislike it and won’t listen to anyone who tries to spell it out for you.

To be fair, you did tell me how you would prefer the movie ended when I said something about it, and I told you why it wouldn’t work. You wanted a happy ending, and that just wouldn’t work for a movie like this. After that, it just went completely over your head. So no, I will not take back calling you an idiot because that’s what you are, and because you have no problem calling other people idiots if they say something you don’t like or agree with.

Otter can respond if he wants to.

reply

The ending was my favorite and strongest part of the movie

reply

I always see this complaint when it comes to Gone Girl, and no one ever says how they would write it any differently. They missed the whole point because there is no good ending for Nick or Amy.

reply

That is a very good point that people complain about an ending but don't offer up how they'd end it.

Honestly, its not our jobs to write the ending or come up with one. Its ok to disagree with something and not need an explanation for it.

As far as i go, I didn't like the ending and I haven't put a ton of thought into how I'd end it. I think they rushed the ending. I think Nick shoulda been hated by people because he was a cheater, yet sympathetic to him for thinking he killed Amy & for dealing with her. Amy should've went to prison and labeled a psychopath.

reply

With that kind of answer, why should I take you seriously? To me, it’s the only ending that makes sense, and actually, yes if you disagree with something you should explain why you disagree if you want credibility.

That said…with your alternative ending you missed the point of the story and the characters. There was no way any of that would have happened with Nick, with Amy being so adored by the public and the public being so ready to believe the worst about the suspected husband and men in general. That would not have happened with Amy, with so many reasons already established in the movie (and more so in the book). Again, there is no good ending for either of them.

reply

Credibility from who or what? I don't care who likes me or agrees with me. I give my opinion as you do.

Thats your opinion theres no ending for either of them. There's plenty of endings.

My biggest point is she wouldn't have gotten away with killing nph as she did. That was all a joke that went down hill from there

reply

Yeah. You really do not get it.

I did not say no ending for them, I said no good ending. As in, there is no way any of this will end well for them at all (except maybe Amy, if you count that because things end up her way as always, because she is always three steps ahead of everyone - but really, that just means that everyone involved is suffering because she won and got away with the horrible things she did). But why am I wasting my time explaining that to you?

reply

Idk, why are you wasting your time? Im not trying to change your mind and convert you. But you sure are trying with me and because I won't, im the bad guy, I won't reason with a dictator, I'm the idiot. Makes a whole lot of sense to me.

reply

So I’m a dictator because I expect you to be intellectually honest when discussing a movie.

Got it.

reply

No, its because you think your way is the only way and if its not your way, then you think your intellectually superior. Your too caught up on what you see and can't wrap your mind around something outside the box. You seem very intelligent, but seem to lack the "think outside the box" skill.

You been preaching about discussing the movie, but I've been mocking you the entire time cuz i didn't like how you approached me in your very first message. Yet your stuck on thinking we are trying to discuss a movie.

Now this should sound familiar cuz you said it to me about when Otter explained more than he needed to. But here it goes, "i had to tell you im mocking you pretty much this whole time, which I shouldn't of had to cuz it was rather apparent, but i did anyhow".

I didn't totally agree with Lance below as far as the movie part goes, but he didn't come across as a tool. And i understood what he was saying and agree with his real world points.

reply

In other words, you think I should not consider what makes sense for the characters in the story in regards to the ending, and “think outside the box” by putting them out of character and making the story 100 times weaker (which - guess what - is not going to happen). So yeah, being intellectually honest.

So not only are you a willful idiot, but you’re also a malicious, toxic person. I can’t really assume anything else with your admission that you were “mocking me the whole time when I thought we were discussing a movie.” If I didn’t know any better, I would say you were waiting for an opportunity like this because for some reason, you get some kind of kick out of it. It must be really nice to be an Internet troll and hide behind a screen.

I’m honest and direct with people when it comes to discussing anything, not just movies. If you have a problem with that, maybe you shouldn’t be on here. If my being blunt and honest with you makes me a tool, so be it. I sleep just fine at night.

reply

Your hopeless. Maybe go read my other threads. Im not here to mock people, troll people or anything. But when they are tools like yourself, then yeah im gunna respond. In however way i feel fit. Since you didn't catch me mocking you cuz im supposedly the idiot and your so intellectually superior than me, i continued mocking you. Yet you being so intelligent and im such an idiot, i needed to explain it to you. You've been so far off base since your very first comment that i don't care to actually discuss anything with you. But its neat to see your next comment.

Now, pump the breaks here. Go way back to the beginning. You harped on me for calling Otter a idiot and stuff. Ok, now put yourself in my shoes. You posted your opinion on your created thread. And someone responds with "no power, bitch please". Thats immature, that's idiotic and uncalled for. So once that was said, i didnt give a crap what else was said. Nobody should. Nobody will talk to me like that and not get some negative comment back. Then you message me all about the story crap. I careless about the story at that point.

Also, when i gave you a version of the ending, it was my opinion and I didn't really think alot about it. I was being nice just giving something quick. It didn't meet your approval and you've been a immature douche about it. Yes i respond to you with names cuz you've earned them by your actions. Cannot have an intellectual conversation/discussion with a closed off dictator.

reply

How about you do yourself a favor and just stop posting, because the more you talk, the more you come across as more deranged, out of touch with reality, and the more you show your true colors.

I am not going to keep engaging with you. You’re an idiot. You’re a narcissist. You’re a toxic person. So go fuck yourself.

reply

Im all those things, yet I haven't needed to swear at you. You've been off key this entire time. How am i the deranged idiot?

reply

I agree that her story was a joke, but her getting away with it isn't as implausible as you'd think. Not long after this movie, there was the MeToo and BelieveAllWomen era. Many innocent men were caught up in false accusations and lies based on flimsy stories, and their lives were ruined because of it. I'm not saying all those innocent men were angels, Ben Affleck's character certainly wasn't, but there was no evidence that they did what they were accused of.

The recent trial between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard ending in Depp's favor was only after years of false claims, slander, libel, defamations, and Depp being fired from Pirates of the Caribbean and Fantastic Beasts, while Heard got to keep her job even after evidence started coming out that she was the abuser. Ezra Miller was caught on video doing things Depp was accused of, and he still hasn't been fired from anything yet either. Miller, like Heard and Rosamund Pike's character in Gone Girl, benefit from checking the right boxes, which allowed them to get away with almost anything, for a while anyway.

So I don't think the ending of this movie was lazy, because unfortunately it's quite realistic.

reply

I hadn’t been keeping up with the Johnny Depp/Amber Heard story, but I stumbled across a video comparing how similar Amber was to Amy in Gone Girl. This is the link:

reply

I understand where your getting at. Well said to be honest. Alot of good points.

When i said the ending was hurried and lazy is because the entire movie had a lot of slow & descriptive story as it went along. Then she kills Desi and they hurry through it. They hurry from there on out. Thats where i felt they got lazy. But its more like they probably were trying to make a certain run time and if they didn't cut corners, the run time woulda been too long.

To me its not as realistic as you say though. Because they leave out detail. I can't tell you how the public would swing after all the details. People would have drawn thoughts & conclusions like the detective did. That her story doesn't fit, it has holes. But the story telling just swept that under the rug.

reply

I'm also not a big fan of the ending.

If I had my way, the 2 druggies that rob her of her cash would've snatched the calendar off the wall, that had her post it notes on it saying something along the lines of, "Well, well, well...what do we have here? This is interesting!" (you can actually see where the guy is about to look at it when the woman tells him to check under RP's dress for the cash and distracts him). Fast forward to the scene where she kills Doogie Howser, she loses her baby in that struggle, but still manages to escape.

Then, she returns and forces Ben to stay in the marriage. Few weeks later, the 2 junkies contact Ben, asking for more money (after recognizing her from the TV stories) and offer to trade her calendar for it. Ben then forwards it to the police woman who was investigating the case and the movie ends with RP getting a life sentence without parole. Ben is also free because she is no longer pregnant, which was the only thing that made him want to stay in the marriage (not fear of her, as many people claim).

That said, I don't mind dark endings and didn't have a problem with it ending the way it did (despite not liking it as much as the rest of the movie).

reply

I do like that ending idea. Woulda much prefer it.
