Not exactly Game of Thrones in terms of quantity, but Alexandra Daddario's nude scene has become the "Phoebe Cates coming out of the pool" of this generation. Lili Simmons's sex scene is sizzling as well.

Our detectives were battling demons on both sides of the law, and I thought the inclusion of Marty’s personal struggles brought a great deal of depth to his character arc as well as competently illustrating how the toll of being human plays out in our professional and private lives.
shareI tend to agree with you, but it would be kind of tempting and not that difficult to create a fan edit of the film that cuts out the family scenes. I think it would leave Rust and Marty a bit thin as characters, but might be kind of interesting.
I think you could also argue that the "family" scenes do a lot for the dramatic pacing of the show, as it often seems to switch from dramatic elements of the murder investigation to a family dynamics scene/segment (or vice-versa).
Those Daddario and Simmons' sex/nude scenes were not necessary - especially not in the gratuitous/fan service-y way they were filmed. Even the creator Pizzolatto acknowledged it in interview at the time. That being said, I'm not complaining.

I would argue they did contribute to demonstrating the depth of depravity of Wood Harrelson's character and the basis of the destruction of his marriage. I'd argue if you wanted to dial back their intensity, you needed to cast someone older and less attractive than Michelle Monaghan as Harrelson's wife.
I mean, we could tell the story of most shows with less violence, nudity, and profanity, but what's the point in that? I want shows with full-throttle intensity across the board.
I became a A.Daddario and L.Simmons' fan during season 1 and not just for their acting----both titillating.
