Queen Elizabeth II likable character in season 5

The Queens character in s5.. IMO if her character is anything like the real Queen, I share some empathy for her.

As a woman of her faith and older age, I believe her to be a mother of a large, dis functional (normal) family, and a changing country in which she inherited all of it.

What Im saying is, as an American who had no real interest or knowledge of the Monarchy until doing research after watching The Crown, I have a way better understanding for the historical factor behind the “system”.

It can not be easy for anyone under The Crown at the same time their lives are made to be glamorous.

Just another reason to get rid of anachronisms like monarchies.

There's something to be said for maintaining traditional institutions that have lasted for many centuries.

Monarchies is Europe are mostly for show and respect for tradition and history. They have no power at all. And not many people even know the countries they still exist in and names of those monarchs. Windsors are just so extremely popular and iconic because of their endless scandals. No other Monarchy have so epic scandals.

- King who abdicated
- Young queen
- Hot sister of queen with her love live and scandals (Princess Margaret)
- Charles becoming young prince who everyone wanted to marry, falls in love but is not allowed to marry
- Marrying young girl with nice upbringing who turned out to be crazy drama queen (Diana).
- Charles still loving his first love despite everything
- Charles hot brother Andrew being spoiled entitled brat who causes problems
- Prince Andrew finding wife who is so dorky and weird that press is after her (Sarah Fergusson)
- Nasty divorce of Charles and Diana
- Diana sleeping around to piss off Royals like she is some Hollywood movie star
- Diana dying in such epic fashion
- People turning on monarchy then cooling off
- William becoming hot young prince who everyone wanted to marry
- Harry becoming bad seed of family who parties, does drugs and is constantly in scandals
- Charles finally marrying his first love despite everything
- William finding nice woman who loves him and accepts royal duties

Then everything finally settled down and it was happy ending. Everyone calmed down. But then Harry had to bring that D-list actress.... And whole new craziness erupted.

I guess this is how it will be with Windsors forever and ever. Once Prince George and his sister and brother will grow up - I'm sure they will bring epic scandals to family too.

It wasn't as answer to you as it's in general. Lots of posts from Americans regarding Crown after every season about how they don't understand why monarchies still exist and that it's time to get rid of them.

They are not the same they were before. They have no power and are more like history and tradition. Which is fine for Europeans.

Americans don't have their own history in that sense. As their country started after 1492. And they didn't have their own kings, queens and princes. So they cherish that little history they have with slavery, civil war, founding fathers etc.

UK was big force in Europe for many centuries. Thanks to their Kings and Monarchy. Who built British Empire. And they are proud of their history and they let monarchy stay as reminder of great past and history. They are not gonna get rid of it because Americans don't understand.

It's like if people would tell Americans to get rid of Hollywood and that they don't understand why they created this cult of worshiping celebrities by choosing random people from crowd and then worship them and listen to their commands what to do. It's stupid. But Americans like it and are like: "Oh well, Hollywood is kinda there. We get used to worship celebrities. It's not gonna stop"

What about all the money they have? which should belong to the people.
What about all the properties they have? which should also belong to the people
And the paintings and artwork? ...
And what about the implicit statement that some people are to be considered better than others for no other reason than the womb they came out of. Not just the royals, but all those useless aristocrats.
It all needs to go.

I would really like all rich people and celebrities to go. But who asks me.

We can give their money and property to people too.

Big difference between money earned legitimately through commerce and money earned by use of an army to just take it whenever they needed it. To take away from a disfavored courtier who happened to just have a different opinion about something and given to a crony yes man. To take from a family when its father happened to die without sons and not try to give it to relatives and so on. Do you think the monarchy was engaged in fair and legitimate commerce? No, it was general theft at the back of an army.

"No other Monarchy have so epic scandals."

Henry VIII literally has his ex-wives executed.

reply

I mean current time.

reply

Ok. Who would know! Did anyone pay any attention to other monarchs?
