Box Office: ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp’ Heads to Supersized $80 Million Debut

Looks like $240m domestic and over $600m global. How many weeks till DC fanatic eats her own shit?

https://variety.com/2018/film/news/ant-man-and-the-wasp-box-office-preview-1202863737/

July looks to start strong as “Ant-Man and the Wasp” eyes a debut between $70 million and $80 million when it launches in 4,100 theaters on Friday. Fellow newcomer “The First Purge” is hoping to scare up a solid opening of its own, getting a jump on the Marvel tentpole by opening on the 4th of July. The fourth title in the “Purge” series should earn around $25 million during the five-day period.

If estimates hold, “Ant-Man and the Wasp” will start well ahead of the original “Ant-Man’s” $57 million debut. That Marvel movie went on to earn $519 million globally, including $180 million at the domestic box office.

Over $600m global? DCfanaticarmy will be eating his poop.

reply

Dceu first five film >>>>Mcu first five film hahaha

reply

That is irrelevant. You claimed that if this movie made more than 600 million, you'll eat your own shit for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

reply

Haha enjoy this flop sucess marveltards aquaman shazam and ww1984 is going to destroy box office records

reply

And you'll eat your own shit for breakfast, lunch, and dinner if it doesn't flop, right? Don't back out now. We all saw you make that claim. I can pull up a few links if you like.

reply

The chickenshit little kid WILL back out.

🙄

Once the final tally is in, his ignorant little 14 year old ass will join others on my ignore list.

reply

I expect him to back out, too, but I have some glimmer of hope he'll own up to it. Honestly, I don't even need to see physical evidence of it. If he simply verifies that he did it, I'll have more respect for him.

reply

[deleted]

I'm looking forward to Aquaman and Shazam for sure, yet I'm also looking forward to Ant-Man and Wasp.
Can't a comic book fan like both? I know, I'm more of a Marvelhead but that doesn't mean I have to hate DC. The reverse is true as well.

reply

Dceu first five film.......doesnt even equal the profit made from 1 MCU!

lololololol

you can Combined The Profit WB made on all 5 DCEU FILMS....and Marvel Studios Made More With just is 1 film....In The Avengers....Black Panther and Avengers IW

lol...The Avengers 1 made Marvel Studios over 500 Million In Profit
IM3 made over 390 Million in Profit
Age Of Ultron Made over 392 M in Profit
Black Panther made over 500 Million in Profit
Avengers IW Made over 700 Million in Profit

lol

Man of steel made 42 Million profit....lol
Justice League Lost 60 to 100 Million ....lolol
BvS ONLY made 101 Million in Profit....

lol Marvel Studios LITERALLY makes MORE money off 1 MCU film than WB has made with ALL DCEU films COMBINED

PS.....you realize that "first 5 DCEU film made over than first 5 MCU films" excuses DIES in December right?

because what happens when Its the first 6 DCEU films against the first 6 MCU films??

whats the 6th MCU film again? oh ya....The 1 .5 Billion dollar Avengers.....

lol hey whats the 7th MCU film? oh ya the 1,2 Billion dollar IM3.....

lol starting in December when Aquaman comes...the DCEU starts FAILING Behind BY BILLIONS!....

the exact desperate excuse you are using to try to make it seem like DC is WINNING....ONLY LEADS to DC losing by BILLIONS!

lol Aquaman and Shazam are the DCEUs 6th and 7th film.....

They need to make 3 BILLION dollars to compete against the MCUs 6th and 7th Films....no chance!

lol its Priceless.....Literally the ONLY possible outcome to this desperate and SAD excuse of comparing the first 3...then 4...and Now the first 5 DCEU films to the first 3, 4 and now 5 MCU films....IS DC LOSING BY BILLIONS...

You traded short term trolling for long term embarrassment and complete SLAUGHTER....

did it make you feel good to claim "Hey the first 5 DCEU films made more than the first MCU films"..ya maybe, although how much joy could you possible get claiming this WHILE Justice League is flopping, losing in direct competition to Thor 3 and while having to watch Marvel Studios Produce 7 straight MCU films in that last 2 years that grossed over 850 Million WW....3 of which topped 1 Billion and 1 that topped 2 Billion....

Oh and while at the same time watching WB once again hire and fire its 4th set of BOSSES to run the DCEU after JL flopped....

lol maybe "Hey the first 5 DCEU films made more than the first MCU films" brought you a slight reprieve from the PURE HELL your living...but ultimately this short term desperation can ONLY lead to LONG TERM embarrassment and DEFEAT when the DCEU start falling behind by BILLIONS starting in december with the DCEUs 6th film and then their 7th film....

lol in exactly 2 years from today....when you compare the first 9 DCEU films to the first 9 MCU films.....the DCEU films will be behind by at least 1 BILLION ...probably 2 BILLION +

reply

Will gross over $250m and reach $600m global quickly. DCEU Fanatic will take a "vacation"!

BOMojo: http://www.boxofficemojo.com/news/?id=4414

Disney cites tracking heading into the weekend estimating a three-day opening anywhere from $70-85 million, which would put it on par with films such as Doctor Strange ($85m opening) and Thor: The Dark World ($85.7m opening), but several signals are pointing to the potential for a much higher debut.

Ant-Man and the Wasp (4,206 theaters) - $88.0 M
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (4,344 theaters) - $29.0 M
Incredibles 2 (4,113 theaters) - $25.6 M
The First Purge (3,031 theaters) - $22.0 M

reply

It will fail in the UK as not even out yet.

reply

Are you saying it will fail because it is not out in the UK yet or for another reason?

reply

Where's DCEU??

FRIDAY AM UPDATE: Ant-Man and the Wasp is already off to a great start, delivering $11.5 million from Thursday night previews, which began at 6PM. The preview grosses dramatically outperform the original film's $6.4 million in previews as well as the $9.4 million Doctor Strange brought in from preview grosses before opening with $85 million. In fact, it's also more than the $7.1 million in previews for Thor: The Dark World, which opened with $85.7 million in 2011 and just head of the $11.2 million in previews for Guardians of the Galaxy, which opened with $94.3 million in August of 2014.

reply

Hahaha enjoy this shitty sucess aquaman is coming

reply

at this Point 600 Million + is guaranteed.....

current tracking has it maybe performing like Cap 2 and GOTg with a possible 95 M OW(although nothing yet on Overseas)

the big thing here is...Marvel Studios once again Kept AM2s budget Low at 130 Million....the same as AM1....

With a Budget that Low....Marvel Studios is looking at a HUGE profit.....AM1 made 519 Million WW and due to its 130 Million dollar Budget, resulted in a 103 Million dollar Profit and another 25 to 40 Million in Profit from home media...

to put that in Prospective....AM1 was more Profitable for Disney than BvS was for WB...

BvS made 870 M WW but due to its massive 400 Million + budget only made 101 Million in Profit...

AM2 is heading toward 600 to 700 Million WW gross on a 130 Million budget which will result in a 150 to 200 Million + PROFIT....

basically....Let the Shit EATING Begin!

reply

Nope...AM2's budget is at least 20 million more than the first.

reply

Actually Deadline is saying the production budget is 162 million...a full 32 million above the original.. They also estimate it will need to make 600-650 million to break even when marketing is factored in so this is going to have to perform considerably better than the first to get the same amount of profit.

reply

lol....

ok....so far...i've seen 4 different sites report for different budgets....

2 have reported 130 M...

1 has reported 140 M...

1 and has reported 162 M...

I get that you hate Disney and are deeply upset that Disney has produced yet another HUGE HIT....but it doesnt matter if the budget is 130 or 160.....Disney is still Making a Profit over 100 Million....

I would lean toward probably the Budget being slightly higher than 130 M...but probably not 162 M...

They also estimate it will need to make 600-650 million to break even when marketing is factored in so this is going to have to perform considerably better than the first to get the same amount of profit.

^^^

queen use common sense before trolling....

we know AM1 made 103 Million in Profit.

another extra 30 MILLION Million isnt going to take it from making 100 M+ to breaking Even....

lol wasnt the Break even number on Justice League supposed to be RUMORED to be 600 to 650 too...the budget for that was 300 MILLION+....

With a Budget between 130 to 160...Literally anything over 400 Million is profit...we know this because Marvel Studios made over 100 Million in Profit on AM1...

basically in comes down this....if AM2 did infact cost 160 M....that Means AM2 needs to make 580 Million to make the same profit AM1 made ....

if Marvel did spend an extra 30 Million on the budget....that means they need to make an extra 60 Million in box office....

If AM2 makes between 600 to 700 Million...Marvel Studios is looking at a 150 M + profit....

theres no way you can spin this anyway but positive...

also again...I highly doubt they actually spend 162 M....its probably between 140 to 150.

ONLY you could try to say AM2 need to make MORE than 700 MILLION to make a profit because it may have a 30 Million dollar higher budget....especially when we KNOW for certain AM1 made over 100 Million in Profit on 130 M budget....

how an extra 30 Million equals needing to make 200 Million more in your mind is a straight s
stunner

I believe Queenie is interpreting his financial position from this:

From Deadline:
"Any fanboy cynic attempting to make an argument that Ant-Man and the Wasp‘s weekend is less than Solo‘s $84.4M 3-day, or under the $93.8M domestic debut of DC’s Justice League is missing the point. Ant-Man and the Wasp wasn’t an off-the-rails production like those movies which were hindered by their $300M-plus shooting costs. Sources tell us that Disney kept the shooting cost for Ant-Man and the Wasp around $162M net –which is lower than other Marvel sequels like Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 ($200M net), Thor: Dark World ($170M) and Thor: Ragnarok‘s ($180M)– with a global P&A spend around $154M. The first Ant-Man profited close to $104M off a $519.3M WW gross and $130M net production cost, and Wasp was hatched to do the same and should be in the black at around $600M-$650M WW.

We’ll see if Saturday pushes Ant-Man and the Wasp‘s weekend higher. Typically, most Marvel movies ease on a Saturday compared to their Friday opening days which are further bulked by Thursday previews. Los Angeles is seeing 100-degree temperatures this weekend, with the San Fernando Valley suffering around 118 degrees. That heat wave is good for the box office, but rainy days are better, so we’re told.
One bittersweet result with Ant-Man and the Wasp is there’s a slight disconnect between audiences and critics. The sequel earned an A- CinemaScore, one of four titles to do so in the 20-title MCU alongside Captain America: The First Avenger, The Incredible Hulk and Thor: Dark World. The first Ant-Man earned an A grade, one of 13 in the MCU (The first Thor owns the lowest CinemaScore with a B+). Critics enjoyed Ant-Man and the Wasp a bit more than the first time around with an 87% certified fresh Rotten Tomatoes score versus the original’s 82%. Still, the CinemaScore and RT here is strong enough to be a catalyst for business."
It's almost like Deadline was responding directly to Queen! So odd, so odd!

reply

The bottom line, no pun intended, is that Marvel/Disney has produced yet another highly profitable hit film using D-List comic characters. Congrats are again in order to the Mouse.

Domestic $76m, world $161m. Awaiting DC fanatic pathetic response.

He said he'd eat his own shit if it crossed 600 million. He gave a specific number. I made sure of that.

Second weekend $29m. Technically that's 62% drop, but first weekend included $11.5 million from Thursday night previews. Actual 3 day drop was 55%.

Foreign will dominate, several large EU markets opening in next few weeks.

http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=ant-manandthewasp.htm

Domestic: $132,825,225 46.8%
+ Foreign: $150,900,000 53.2%
= Worldwide: $283,725,225

reply

This is supposed to be impressive for a 162 million budgeted Marvel film with 140 million in marketing/distribution costs?

Feeling really good about my pre-release predictions:

I'm feeling less confident now about my original estimates.

I think it will come in closer to:
$197M Domestic (35%)
$368M Foreign (65%)
$565M Worldwide
