JUST WANTED TO GIVE AN UPDATE because this was a NIGHTMARE weekend for queen as as ALL HOPE is now gone for queen...

AM2 Will pass SOLO domestically tomorrow(queen 100% said for sure AM2 would not top SOLO,Even hilariously questioned if it would MATCH AM1s domestic gross)

Next, AM2 is now at 594 Million WW....With another 20 to 25 Million left in China, Plus 10 to 15 Million from Japan....bottom line, AM2 Will EASILY top 600 M+ WW just as I and many others predicted but of course queen JUST had to make a troll thread where he predicted a 540 Million total and tried to make fun of me and other for predicting 600 M+....

thoughts queen on being wrong about every single thing you predicted about AM2?

BO.com, BoxofficeMojo, Forbes, Many Box office Analysts ALL forecast AM2 to top 600 Million +.....but those forecast are all 100% dependent on AM2 opening in China.....and Hilariously queens decided to make a thread 5 days before AM2 is set to open in China and declare "Nope its Not Making 600 Million"

AM2 has the 4th highest Opening DAY ever for a SH film ONLY behind Team UP films Infinity War, Age Of Ultron and Civil War

Basically AM2 has Biggest opening day in China for Any SOLO SH film.....

also worth Noting......Queen becomes very anger with this news....and Will quickly decide to start Moving the goal posts ....Queen predicted AM2 WILL Finish between 540 to 550 Million TOTAL......Now that AM2 is going to either total or PASS HIS Prediction by SUNDAY....queen Will have no choice but to hunker down and go into FULL "Screw it" Mode and just start Spite Trolling and Moving the goal posts

WOW.

This is Marvel’s most modest franchise and yet it had the fourth biggest opening for Marvel in China. AND, like you said, only all the big team-up films had better openings! 600+ million is certainly not out of the realm of possibility now. I say it’s guaranteed indeed.

For all the hilarious underperformance talks, it really is notable that it nabbed the best opening for ANY solo superhero film over there (performed better domestically than the first one did as well). In addition, it had the best August weekend launch for IMAX, which means that, yes, it broke some records!

So as I always say, never underestimate the power of an MCU film. It genuinely is great to see a smaller-scale Marvel film like this exceed expectations.

Yeah, that's the sad thing. Ant Man, of all things, is in the ballpark of BvS and Justice League. Both of those movies should have made a billion each. I don't hate DC and I always wanted to see a Batman/Superman movie. I don't want to see this happen.

It’s the sad state of the DC cinematic world; both Batman & Superman are currently nowhere near the big screen titans they once were (it’s been decades for the man of steel). The interest isn’t strong and it’s obviously for good reasons. Speaking of DC, I truly have high hopes for the Joker film with Joaquin Phoenix, but other than that...

Anyway, Ant-Man has officially become a household name. And, I for one, am glad to see this happen.

Not only China, it hasnt opened in Japan yet either.
Its also only $3million from surpassing Solo: A Star Wars Story domestically, which a few were convinced it wouldnt do.
So to recap:
1. It did beat Ant Man domestically
2. It did beat Ant Man internationally
3. It will beat Solo domestically
4.it will do at least $100-$140million more than Ant Man, more than offsetting the $25million increase in budget.

Was there ever a doubt?

Comic Book Films have such ODD drops in China(but its because they open so high)....The Majority of them drop between 75 to 85 % in their second weekend but then steady out and have normal 50% drops from then on out....

AM2 was against MI6 this weekend in China too....

Off the top of my Head....I remember

Black Panther dropped 88% homecoming dropped
Spider-Man HC dropped 85%
Infinity War dropped 72%
Justice League Dropped 74%
BvS Droped 82%
X-Men: Apocalypse dropped 75%

Even Critically acclaimed CBMs films...have HUGE drops in China....

Box office is just different over there....AM2 is heading toward a 125 MILLION ish total gross, which will be the highest ever for a NON Team up film

Strange criteria that some people latch onto.

The first Ant-man had: the Original Ant Man, The Original Wasp, Yellow Jacket, Agent Carter and the Falcon. I almost forgot about Stan Lee.

The first Ant Man was a solo movie and so was Ant Man and The Wasp.

Meanwhile, the box office for AM&TW has been very solid. Both Queen and Scott Mendelson have characterized the performance negatively.

Even a soft domestic run for Ant-Man and the Wasp won't necessarily hurt its bountiful overseas prospects (this isn't Solo) and will still give Marvel around $1.55b among three movies (Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War and Ant-Man and the Wasp). Come what may, Ant-Man may remain Marvel's smallest franchise in more ways than one. But when your smallest series is still earning over/under $175 million domestic and $500m-$600m worldwide, that's not exactly cause for panic and reactionary decisions.

And yet SM constantly paints a less than rosy prognosis for AM&TW's financial success, highlighting the 83% drop without explaining the China release strategy window that will shed theaters in a minute to squeeze newer foreign releases into play.

Disney/Marvel always operates with the hand they are dealt and they tend to do a very good job.

Yes but The wasp is from the AM franchise...the character didnt come from another franchise...

that would be like calling Iron Man 2 and team up film because it has WAR Machine it in...

Rhodes was introduced in the first film, his character developed into War Machine in the sequel...

the same thing happened in AM....Hope/Wasp was introduced in the franchise in the first film, and The character developed into the The Wasp....

Not trying to be mean here, but I think your confusing character development and story arks for TEAM UP films

the definition of The TEAM UP film is pretty clear.....the examples of Team Up films are pretty clear....characters from different franchises come together or show up in each others films

sorry AM2 does not fit that definition...(Unless you count the post credit sequence)

but none the less your Explanation that The TITLE makes in a Team UP film is just wrong...I'm sorry

Rhodes is a side character and was never a protagonist. Wasp is a title character. They were deuteragonists as they had roughly equal screentime and had an equally important role to play. By comparison, there was never a movie called Iron Man and War Machine. It certainly could not be called a solo film as there was no solo hero. At the very least, it's a team movie in the same vein as Guardians of the Galaxy or the like (just with a very small team I guess).

If you took a poll and ask Is "Ant-Man and The Wasp" A Team Up film similar to Avengers, JL, BvS and Civil War....I would think probably close to 99% would agree its not....

for me you just cant get around the fact The Hope/Wasp is part of the franchise, from The beginning Her role was introduced and was Planned around expanding into the Wasp....Thats her characters Ark in The first film, Her and her dad finally repaired their relationship and came together, enough that Hank finally WANTED and Let her take over reigns of her Mothers Wasp suit(with Upgrades)

this is a Story Ark, This is character Development...you cant make that a "Team Up" film when the character have BEEN IN BOTH MOVIES from the beginning.

You just seem to be stuck on The TITLE.

do you consider Captain America: Civil War A Team UP film?

it only has Captain America in The TITLE....Yet theres over 20 Heroes in the film from every MCU film and franchise....

basically your only real argument that AM2 is a Team Up is the TITLE, because TITLE has BOTH AM and The Wasp....according to you its a Team Up film....but that same argument fails when APPLIED to The Obvious TEAM UP Captain America: Civil War which only has CA in the TITLE....

Yep. It will hit $600 by next Monday. It seemed to get to that number slower than other MCU movies but a part of that was due to the delayed release in Britain and China.
