Does anyone else think this movie sucks?

I just saw it on DVD and going in didn't like Leonardo, Brad, and Quentin. And seeing this film didn't change my mind. I thought the script was just poor; it's Tarantino's style to just throw random scenes together, and here it's about as random as you can get. Which is unfortunate because the subject matter is potentially interesting and important.

Even the recreation of the 1960s I don't give high marks to; yes they had a whole bunch of authentic 1960s cars, yes they had lots of '60s (random) music, etc. But the '60s je ne sais quoi definitely was not there.
And that this film was dominated by Brad and Leonardo didn't help, especially with the latter's cartoon-like Southern accent and their whole dumb hick routine. The actress who played Sharon Tate did a good job with very weak material, and the alternate reality ending had the inevitable Tarantino violence. Don't get me wrong; I would have loved for the reality to end this way: the Manson Family getting killed by a 2nd rate stuntman and 3rd rate actor, but it just didn't jibe in any way with reality.
Since I'm the ultimate '60s buff it takes a lot for me to go negative on a '60s themed film, but in general I prefer actual '60s films and culture--not recreations whether good or bad. But again the script was too random, too lazily thrown together, and uninspired. Change my mind!

I saw an interview with Tarantino where he stated that he was 8 or 10 years old (I can’t remember which) in 1969. The cars, songs, movie billboards, films and pretty much all of the scenery depicted in the film are the things he remembers most as a child. His step father would take him riding around town in a car just like the one Cliff Booth drove in the film. He said the camera angle during the Cliff driving scenes are shot from the passenger seat height level of an eight year old boy.

So if your wondering why certain odd music was played instead of the most popular of the day, it’s because these are the songs that stuck in an 8 year old QT’s head. Same with the billboards and everything else.

You may want to give it another viewing or read some of the many post here about the film. Every scene is placed there for a reason and nothing is random.

I really liked it. It was set in the 60s and paid homage to it without being too cheesy.

My favourite part was when Brad visits the old ranch where the cult is staying. You fully expect the girl to be lying about the old man letting them stay there, you assume him dead, and it turned out that everything the girl said was correct.

I’m not sure about the whole rewriting of history aspect, maybe had it been loosely based, but then again, it makes us talk about it. Was it bad taste? Is it funny? Up to each viewer.

The accents were bad, even Pacino seemed to put on some sort of accent, which didn’t work.

Strangely I think Australian actors can sometimes do a southern accent better, because the “normal” American accent doesn’t keep slipping through.

I wanted to like it. I didn't. Though I certinaly wouldn't say it was a waste of time.
It held my interest --easily-- but I just couldn't deal with the non-reality of a real incident.

I watched the film last night on DVD and I loved it. The cast was great and so was the music...very reminiscent of the 1960's...the cars, the music, etc.

This move was boring, in poor taste and torture to finish. I like both actors and 60s themed anything, but I really hated this film. I agree with the OPs review except "sucks" is an understatement.

Why would you take time to see a movie with two stars, writer and director you don't like?
