Omg 🤣 WTH the Anti-men is strong in this one

Even with the little girl 😂
“It’s ok I forgive you for killing my dad”
You only pulled the trigger 🤣..etc

reply

It was pretty surprising how hard they leaned into the "all the women are good, all the men are bad" motif.

I mean, literally, down the line, all the women are good and all the men are bad. (With the caveat that Giamatti's character was perhaps in a gray zone and I guess the girl's dad was okay, but he's barely in the movie.)

reply

This is how movies work:

you have the good guys , and the bad guys
the good guys wear white hats and the bad guys wear black hats

now lets do some algebra... say you've got 3 white hats and 3 black hats - thats 6 people

now lets say they screenwriter decides that just for once the good guys are going to be women.

that leaves you with 3 white hat women and 3 black hat men.

Now here's the key.
Its not a feminist attack on men , its just that the white hats are played by women instead of John Wayne.
The bad guys havent changed (thats the point)

Did you ever see Commando with Arnold Shwarzenegger?
I counted once - he gunned down about 100 bad guys and guess what - they were all men
Whereas his sidekick was . get this . a woman!
What a feminst man hating movie that was eh?

reply

Typical gaslighting from the resident low test beta

reply

You're the one gaslighting.

reply

. . . "just for once the good guys are going to be women". . .

It's not like we haven't seen this trope before, and multiple times recently: Birds of Prey, Oceans 8, Charlie's Angels, and going back a few years, Sucker Punch. That's just off the top of my head and not even to count all the ones I'm not remembering.

reply

yeah so thats about 10 years? out of the 100 or so that they've been making films.

I should have phrased it :
"once in a while the good guys are going to be women". . .

reply

That would be more accurate phrasing, but even then it would not be entirely honest simply because there have been a SHITLOAD of female-fronted action movies over the past 10 years. How many of those are "team" movies I don't know.

Female-lead action movies are so common now that I legit don't even know if they've outpaced male-lead action films. I'm going to guess that the mean are still leading, but the fact that it's even a question is telling.

reply

"yeah so thats about 10 years? out of the 100 or so that they've been making films."

So what? You seem to think you have made a valid point.

reply

my point is:

Occasionally the hero is a woman.
The villain may still remain a man.
When this occurs it does not mean its a man hating feminazi movie.

reply

You may have a point if not for this movie being exactly that though so kindly don't piss down my back then tell me it's raining

reply

Too many good females? Is there supposed to be a quota? X number of bad females to good females?

reply

Typically men go to watch action films. If the common message in most of these films is: all men bad, all women good, then most men are going to notice.

They're essentially pitching misandry to mostly male audiences and feminists who love to hate men.

Only betas and SJWs attempt to obfuscate this point.

reply

"Only betas and SJWs attempt to obfuscate this point"

Or men who aren’t insecure manbabies.

reply

"Manbabies" (and "incels") is a term I literally only see used by the deranged Twitter horde.

It really kind of proves my point.

reply

I’m not even on Twitter.

reply

Too bad that's exactly why this movie sucks.

reply

You make a good point. However with the current cultural mania being if you do not embrace left wing ideology you must be a white supremacist misogynist ready to invade Washington DC so you can enslave blacks and woman and destroy the earth, it begs the question is the one sided depiction of men in this movie promoting a political ideology.

reply

Unless someone's been living under a rock for the last decade, the answer is obviously an emphatic yes.

In fact, other than John Wick, I can't think of the last big blockbuster theater release starring a straight, white, masculine male that wasn't a super hero flick.

But off the top of my head we've had Gunpowder Milkshake, Atomic Blonde, Peppermint, Hunter Hunter, the upcoming Jolt, and The Hunt all starring women.

There's an obvious trend of the men being made evil and the women being heroic and masculine. It fits in line with literally insane talking points and ramblings found on Twitter and Facebook from crazy SJWs.

If this film released in a vacuum back in the 1980s then it wouldn't mean anything. But in the context of today's current political climate? It's obvious what the filmmakers are trying to convey and you would have to be blind, deaf and dumb not to see it.

reply

I'll avoid making the obvious gay joke here :)

It just struck me - you were complaining about the same thing on the "Future war" discussion the other day , and come to think of it that *is*
"the last big blockbuster theater release starring a straight, white, masculine male"

Sure , theres some blacks in it , and some women (oh the humanity)
But the MAIN GUY . is white
What more do you want?

reply

ooh , it just struck me , thats Amazon ,not theatre, but lets not nitpick on that point

reply

LOL thanks for proving my point. The last big blockbuster you could think of starring a straight white male didn't even make it to theatres.

Feel free to try again, hombre.

reply

Thats *not* the point - thats why I added the second post about nitpicking that small detail.
Theatres are a dying industry - especially now with covid , they havent even been open.
Anyone wants a big screen can have one in thier homes these days.
I havent been since 2005 , for a whole variety of reasons .
Doesent mean I dont like a good movie

In every other respect that Future War film is the latest big budget brainless transformers-alike summer movie.

reply

The broader point is that before if we wanted some good action fanfare we had Stallone, we had Schwarzenegger, we had Lundgren, we had Bronson, Eastwood, Dudikoff, Van Damme, Seagal, Norris, Willis, Gibson, and to lesser extents Bosworth and Daniels.

If some of those films didn't make it to theaters we still had plenty of options in the DTV sector.

These days the legitimate action heroes are relegated to the DTV sector as evident with The Tomorrow War. Meanwhile feminist trash like Black Widow and Gunpowder Milkshake get theatrical releases.

The people who actually WANT to see action films have misandrist propaganda shoved down their throat, or otherwise have to go surfing through second-rate streaming services to find something part-way palatable.

13 action stars.
What are saying ? dwarfs and lesbians have stolen all the action roles?
or maybe theres just not as many action films.

... or , i think, that genre along with a lot of others has fallen into decline due to swarms of costumed fucking superhero asshats flying around wearing their underpants on the outside.

The Expendables 2 made a boat load of money, along with the John Wick series, proving that people really love those kind of films.

Interestingly enough Expendables 3 -- with it's soft PG-13 rating -- tanked at the box office because it WASN'T violent enough.

When we do get proper R-rated action fanfare, people come out in droves to watch it, like the Taken trilogy. But we rarely get those kind of action movies these days.

Actually, it's both. We don't get as many action films and the ones we do get mostly seem to be feminist themed, such as Ava, Anna, Gunpowder Milkshake and Peppermint to name but a few. It's a shame because I really do like Karen Gillen, but the feminist propaganda is tiresome and not very entertaining.

ONCE UPON A TIME IN HOLLYWOOD.

This is a historical dramedy, not an action film.

HOBBS & SHAW.

Sure Jason Statham is white, but The Rock is the one with top-billing, and he's not white.

TOY STORY 4.

AHAHAHAHA... a Kid's Film? Really?!

MIB:INTERNATIONAL

It stars that lesbian black chick from Thor, with Chris Hemsworth playing her metrosexual sidekick. It rightfully bombed.

JURASSIC WORLD:FALLEN KINGDOM.

I suppose this sort of counts, but it came out back in 2018. You really had to go digging for this one, eh?

ANGEL HAS FALLEN.

I forgot about this film, but it was actually a modestly budgeted flick at only $40 million. So it wasn't actually a blockbuster, but it did make back more than three times its budget, which goes to show that the world is craving proper straight, white action heroes. Too bad they're in short supply.

RAMBO:LAST BLOOD.

Sure, but hilariously enough it kind of further proves my point that a 70-year-old Stallone had to write and help produce this flick to put some straight-white male blood back into theaters.

ZOMBIELAND:DOUBLE TAP

There is nothing masculine about Jesse Eisenberg.

DOCTOR SLEEP.

Not an action film.

FORD VS. FERRARI.

This is a historical drama.

SO TELL ME...WHY THE FASCINATION WITH MASCULINE WHITE MEN?🤔

I know this is something they don't teach Leftists in school, but whites are actually the majority in America, and half of that majority are men who are straight. Majority of whom enjoy action fanfare that used to populate theaters, television, and video for decades until wokeness took over. Now, majority of the action fanfare is doled out with misandrist storylines and majority female action-heroines taking over where men dominated.

So? Can’t you watch a movie where all men are bad without feeling bad about yourself or something?

reply

IKR? i just dont get the OP's mentality
is it insecurity?

reply

It is.

reply

I don’t think it happens so often that it’s a huge issue. And generally, when it comes to action-heavy movies, even for kids, the multitudes of face-less baddies are usually male.

My only problem with it is that it’s slowly turning into the go-to replacement for romance in female-led films. The thing that makes a movie "feminist" or less typical now is to axe love interests and have it be women fighting men – but of course, still written and directed by a male director, and it feels that way. I don’t even necessarily think it’s an agenda-driven thing, I think it's just well known that women want to see variety when it comes to female characters, so Hollywood's answer is “Oh, everyone likes Harley Quinn” and that’s what’s being done across the board.

However, what’s a viable solution? Should all the bad guys be women too?

reply

However, what’s a viable solution? Should all the bad guys be women too?

It's not the bad guys that are the problem, it's the good guys and the messaging together.

Your comment actually touched on this problem here...

My only problem with it is that it’s slowly turning into the go-to replacement for romance in female-led films.

Most female led action films in recent times either have the main character as a lesbian or out for revenge for losing her husband/boyfriend/child. So instead of showcasing a female + male action-oriented power-fantasy, it just turns into a female-led romp where she mows down a bunch of dudes and either gets with another chick or avenges her loss.

Now in films where she loses her male partner, it's the equivalent of the male revenge film. That's fine. We expect her dole out vengeance on behalf of those she lost. No different than your Death Wish films, or Pray For Death, or Hard Target.

In the other case, however, we see a stark departure from male-oriented action films. Typically in male action films he's either aided, guided, or accompanied by a woman or multiple women, one of whom is usually positioned as a love interest. This is usually the case both in male revenge films or typical action-adventure films with a male in the lead, like Romancing The Stone, Indiana Jones, Quigley Down Under, Assassination, Murphy's Law, or Hard Target.

There is never a situation where the male action hero is positioned to mow down the opposite sex in almost gleeful fashion.

There's also the subtext -- as the OP pointed out -- of: all men bad, all women good.

Recent films don't even see female heroes getting with males anymore. It's just all men = bad.

If it's something you see then it's something you notice because the theme is reiterating throughout the film; it means it was put there intentionally. The agitprop was purposeful.

reply

True, but that doesn't necessarily make it bad or misandrist. Because male action heroes gleefully mowing down people of the same sex is typical, as is being aided and accompanied by women, it shouldn't be that stark a contrast just because it's women action heroes instead of men.

So that's why I can't see a real solution to this minor issue. You could make some or all of the "bad men" women, which we've seen in films like Kill Bill, you could add more males to the supporting cast, like in Tomb Raider, or you could make more movies like this so it's not considered a-typical. But it's not really that big of a deal imo.

reply

Yeah, if it's not all about the white male, there has to be an issue.
