Awkwafina

Her character is just there for no other reason than just being there..

reply

Every hero needs a sidekick!

Who else can they explain everything to.

reply

The narrator

reply

The narrator can't be the fun guy with the sense of humor, that gives the unhappy hero a chance to lighten up, and the audience someone to identify with.

The latter was a big part of the reason she was included, she's the American, modernized, everyday person, the only one in this story of ancient heroes and forgotten villages who is like the people in the audience.

reply

Wtf identifies with Awkwafina...?

reply

Anyone without super powers or super martial arts skills.

reply

But totally can shoot an arrow. Everyone can.

reply

Those people who put that thing to their throat when they talk.

reply

Lol๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

reply

Narratively perhaps, but I like that she had her own arc with a pay-off, rather than just being a goofball who snarks through the whole thing.

reply

Arc... What arc...?

reply

Basically the same exact one as Shang-Chi. Loser valet turned superhero.

reply

except he was exceptional before he was a valet. She only had the power of feminism.

reply

AS IS THE WAY WITH LIFE AND ART OFTEN.

reply

Art ..?

reply

FILM,WETHER YOU LIKE IT OR NOT...IS ART...ART IS EXPRESSION...NOT EVERY EXPRESSION SERVES A PURPOSE.JUST LIKE IN LIFE,NOT EVERY PERSON OR ASPECT ULTIMATELY SERVE A PURPOSE.

reply

Calling it art doesn't excuse the fact that Awkwafina's character was pointless, unnecessary and annoyingly boring..

reply

True, but it's still art.

reply

Everything is art

reply

No, not even close.

reply

You can't spell fart without art.

reply

YOU MISSED A FEW STEPS.

reply

She knew him for years and had no idea he was a highly trained martial artist. Because he has the looks and physique of a bookworm yeah?

reply

Even in San Francisco, it's believable that in ten years, nobody'd ever attacked him before.

reply

Yeah I definitely felt she was underused in the film.
I also didnโ€™t really like that they put her and Shang-Chi together romantically at the end.
It just didnโ€™t feel right to me given that they had been best-friends for such a long time.

reply

The difficult part is to justify her existence later, she does not exactly have super power.

reply

True,
And that's why the power levels are now all crap..
Everyone is more powerful than everyone

reply

She has a POC vagina. In the new Marvel wokeverse, that counts as a superpower. ๐Ÿ˜

reply

They didn't put them together romantically at the end. They just hooked their arms together and walked through Wong's portal.

reply

Implying she is a part of team, why? She has no super power, no special training, why did Wong want her there?

reply

That made no sense and really annoyed me.. like fck, now you can become an avenger simply because your friend has powers... no build up, no development just instant membership..

reply

Yeah, that made no sense. I assume he needed her input on To Lo and what she saw the Rings do. Sort of like a cop asking a witness some questions.

reply

Canโ€™t Dr Strange see different possible realities? Maybe they saw one where Awkwafina was instrumental in making something happen.

reply

How? They no longer have the time stone. Remember? Thanos destroyed it, they had to borrow it from another time line and returned it.

reply

Never thought of that. I didn't consider that he used the timestone for that power instead of just the normal magic of that order.

Then maybe the monks just want more womens in their monastery.

reply

Oh I thought they implied they were a couple when they sat by the lake and she put her head on his shoulder?
I so hope you are right and Iโ€™m wrong.
I really hate MCU romances for some reason.

reply

Especially Black Widow and Hulk. The most forced romance ever in a movie.

reply

Could not agree more!
Itโ€™s the worst part of Age of Ultron for me.
I canโ€™t bear to even watch that bathroom scene with Banner and Black Widow.
Total cringe fest.

reply

She actually had some good lines that added to the show. Making fun of him for his name change, was pretty good. And I like that she did not lip off to the Father.

Her being able to hit a target, the size of a house, after one day's training, did not bother me.

Her going with Wong at the end, also does not. ONe can imagine reasons she might be invited. Even if just because he knows that Shang-Chi likes her.

reply

You been watching way too much CW Arrowverse

reply

No, I just watched the after credit scene. (can't believe I forgot!). It was just to look at the rings. No reason not to bring the "friend".

reply

Just like in Arrowverse

reply

She was also there because Simu Liu has no personality or creativity as an actor. Everyone else carried this movie. Just as in Kim's Convenience.

reply

Worst MCU casting since Ben Kingsley's Mandarin.
