Yay, great to hear from you guys again! The marathon is right around the corner! What was Kevin supposed to do when he ended up stranded in NYC? Sleep in the streets? Kevin did spend way too much money on frivolous things, but I’m sure his parents were glad that he stayed in a nice hotel and was able to buy food rather than if he had been alone in NYC with no resources. You do realize that Kevin is 9-10 years old? No kid that age could be that articulate and calm while being sided against by his entire family. Your apology sounds like it was written by a grad student. Hi Nuts! Yes I make Turkey on Thanksgiving and at other times during the year, too, but I don’t stuff it Of course! That is the most logical explanation I suppose. I watch this a few times every Xmas season, and have, for years. I would describe the movie as sentimental, not sad. I love the music, the nostalgia, the black and white atmosphere. About a decade ago I corresponded by email with Karolyn Grimes, who had played Debbie. I asked her how she was able to learn her lines so well at such a young age, and what it was like to work with Cary Grant. She graciously responded that it's easy for children to learn a great many things because their minds are like sponges, and that Cary Grant was very kind to her. Since I am a Cary Grant fan, I was happy to hear this. Karolyn's personal life had some real tragedy in it, yet she remains a warm and positive person. Now when I watch the film, it adds even more meaning to the story, about how we can overcome life's difficulties and disappointments when we reach out in love to others. Whenever I've stuffed a turkey, I put the stuffing in before putting the turkey in the oven. I didn't know some people take it out when it's almost done to stuff it? Also, that was a pretty small turkey for a family of four, especially when adult Ralphie was talking about all the leftovers they would have. I would get him a new furnace for the old man! Yay! It makes for an interesting discussion. Except he wore braces, so he couldn't have been that poor. I bet he smelled bad! Make sure it's spiked! I have to disagree with your mom. I see no reason to believe that the nuns weren't singing this song at the wedding. Is she saying the wedding processional music was all in Maria's mind? That would be out of place with the rest of the movie, which was very straightforward. I didn't think it was mean for them to sing that song, and presumably Maria would have agreed to it. It was an affectionate song, not mean. I think they both look a lot older now that we're watching on HD large screen TVs. I don't think there's any indication that the parents were religious. The Old Man certainly swore up a storm, so I'm thinking not. I always viewed it as karmic payback for Schwartz egging on Flick to stick his tongue to the flag pole. 9/10. The only Xmas movies I love more are Albert Finney's "Scrooge" and "The Bishop's Wife" with Cary Grant. However, A Xmas Story is the only movie that I return year after year to discuss on a forum, so it's got a special place in my heart. Yay! We're getting there! I think he gave an insightful and interesting synopsis of the movie. No offense, but you really only came here to post that you thought the movie was boring? Why spend time posting about a movie you don't care about?
