This is the exact question I've been asking from the moment they announced Birds Of Prey was being made into a movie. WHY?!? Here's how many comic book fans and comic book movie fans were yearning for a Birds Of Prey movie - 0. This movie was made because some Hollywood idea man said "Hey, Harley Quinn is a very popular character, so let's build a whole movie around her!" And all his sycophants nodded emphatically, praising the genius of his vision, even though not a one of them knew a damn thing about Harley Quinn. Someone should have told them that she's only a sidekick to the Joker and that's how most people recognize her. I hope Warner Brothers is prepped to lose lots of money. Idiots! Man, HOLMES AND WATSON must have been a horrific attempt at a comedy, as I've never seen something starring Farrell get so skewered. I do believe that he's had his big moment though. Ever since hits like OLD SCHOOL and ANCHORMAN, his brand of comedy is not evolving but becoming stale. He also seems a bit insufferable. I hope someone associated with Marvel Studios looks at social media chatter and perhaps reads your post. Maybe it will wake them up from the woke stupor they're currently under and realize they're on the way to ruining their brand. Thor was deliberately de-powered in Avengers: Endgame to make Captain Marvel look more powerful. I would bet this month's rent that the original script had Thor using Stormbreaker to knock Thanos's ship out of the sky (just like he was knocking ships out of the sky during Infinity War) but Feige stepped in and made them rewrite him to push Captain Marvel into the final story. Lord help me, her character sucks! From the early details revealed by the studio and the leaks in the media, this movie will be a convoluted stew of progressive politics, overwrought gay primping with a shitty storyline. A few A-list actors and actresses won't salvage it either. Such a shame but WB will get what they deserve for putting out such garbage. That's a tough one but I think his absolute best role was as the marshal in The Fugitive. That was an iconic character that he made and after watching the movie, I couldn't imagine anyone else playing that role. I've not seen the older (black and white) version but have seen the 1984 version with John Hurt and found it to be remarkably accurate to the book, which I've read at least three times. It was a startling movie! You felt the sense of aloneness that gripped Winston Smith, seemingly by himself in thinking the way he did and afraid of being branded a "thought criminal" if someone suspected him. And the Oceania they created in that movie was true to the way I envisioned it. Everything was crumbling except the large, monolithic party buildings that stood above all other dwellings, like citadels watching over the citizens. It was monstrous, bleak and the ONLY thing that mattered was making sure that citizens were sufficiently "patriotic" and committed to the party and Big Brother. The "two minutes hate" was very similar to Cold War era Soviet movies and propaganda, the kind used by Stalin and Mao. Someone on this board mentioned HBO turning it into a series and I guess that would be OK but only if they hire writers who don't put their personal politics into the stories (please no more asinine Trump references, that's so old and nothing feels any different from when Bush or Obama was in office, so give that shit a rest). I'm glad to be seeing posts about the content and quality of show. When they started showing ads for Pennyworth, I was skeptical because I remembered how Gotham started out so good and then went waaay south in season 3. From they trailers of Pennyworth, this looks more like Gotham's third season than the brilliance of it's first two seasons. Why they have to make these shows so "over the top" now is beyond me. Not everything has to be GOT. I'll likely NOT be watching Pennyworth. And their sexual orientation would be pertinent to the plot because... ? Really stupid question. Thanks for your insights. I've been considering going to see TL just because of Dafoe but your post and corresponding comments have sold me. I don't see that as Shazam is equally as powerful (perhaps more) than Superman. He's one of the strongest characters ever in the DC Universe. I can't disagree more. Shazam and Suicide Squad are totally different movies in tone, acting and story. In all three categories, Shazam had them and Suicide Squad didn't. Shazam was a fun, paced and good movie. Suicide Squad was a hastily thrown-together, big budget movie that had a lot of star power and little else. It was a patchwork job and showed. This is my personal ranking, based on how much I enjoyed each movie. 1. Aquaman - 9/10 2. Shazam - 8/10 3. Wonder Woman - 7/10 4. Man of Steel -7/10 5. Justice League - 5/10 6. Suicide Squad - 2/10 7. Batman V Superman - 0/10 It happened when men like Paul Newman and Humphrey Bogart got replaced with a bunch of beta males. I actually found Bird Box to be a much scarier and more dramatic movie, even though it too had it's issues. It occurred to me when watching "A Quite Place" that such creatures with super-sensitive hearing would have been able to detect breathing and even heartbeats. Besides teeth and wings, they were mostly all ears! You're telling me they can hear someone drop a glass on the floor from a mile away but can't hear someone breathing when they're feet away from them? Not believable. The whole "pirates on the Moon" part is what convinced me NOT to see it. Up until I saw that spoiler on a podcast, I had been genuinely interested. That's simply stupid. Yeah, I've been worried about Feige ever since he started giving ear to the Hollywood "crazies" who want to make everything a social/political/feminist commentary. Hiring Brie to be CM was one of those "OH NO" moments. However over the past several months, it seems cooler heads might have pulled him back a bit as audience tracking data and fan feedback have shown that CM was not a well-received character, with most finding her boring at best and insufferable at worst. Whereas they had planned to make her the new face of the MCU in Phase IV, it now appears that they are dialing her presence back substantially. Thank God! What has me worried now is the next THOR movie. I don't agree with the conclusion. Queen Brie got paid 5 million for her first appearance in the MCU. Chris Hemsworth got something in the range of 150 thousand for his first appearance. They had a story out about it during the lull between Captain Marvel and Avengers: Endgame. There is no glass ceiling in Hollywood, just the name you have that's either (currently) big in people's minds (like Kevin Feige's for instance) or you're just kind of known. For whatever reason, Feige and people at Marvel think Queen Brie hung the Moon. Based on what I've seen of her performances, I'm trying to figure if they've seen something the rest of us haven't seen. A tree stump has more acting charisma. Just saying. LOL!!! Thank you! I finally saw that it came out and I watched the entirety of Season 2 in about a day. It took long enough! Now I guess I have to wait nearly another 2.5-3 years for Season 3. What a show though! It's such a big moment. Very, very happy for the MCU! And this crowning as the #1 all time movie wasn't due to Endgame alone. It was due to 11 years of tireless world building, good storytelling and fine casting. Great job Kevin Feige and to all the men/women who helped make this happen.
