Yes, I like it too. I don’t have appleTV anymore, but I’ll wait for season 3 and sign on for a month. I’ll catch Foundation, too. It’s mostly blink and you’ll miss it stuff. One brief sex scene, but kid-safe. One brief male-male kiss. Diverse cast but it doesn’t detract from the story, probably helps it, in fact. Damocci, I concur. Eternals is easily the best of the Marvel films of 2021. Far better than Shangchi or the childish Spiderman film, or Black Widow. Forget about Venom 2, which isn’t Disney, but still. Eternals has a somewhat epic feel and felt more like a character film than a mindless action film. It’s flawed but I’d actually rank it among the better MCU films. Of course, it helps that the lead actress, Gemma Chan, is very attractive, can actually act, and doesn’t come across as snobbish in the film (Captain Marvel, cough cough). The main characters are all lame stereotypes. Chief Hero is a stupid white guy with daddy issues and inferiority complex. Everyone beats him up. There’s the obligatory obese black girl. In a lesbian relationship. Gotta check those demographic boxes. Also the obligatory hot white girl with attitude issues who hates men. Of course. Ther’s a Computer geek, naturally. Unattractive fat guy, of course. Also a black, uh, person who is team leader. Soft-spoken, nice eyelashes. That’s not… Viola Davis is it? No, doesn’t quite look like her. A guyrl? Character’s name didn’t help, but I figured out the gender by 2nd episode. Wait wait! Need some Asians! So, there’s the Asian woman detective. She’s smart. As a given, all the women in the show are smart or deadly, the guys are buffoons. Oh, there’s an Asian guy. Knows martial arts, of course. Gets beat up for laughs. Sigh… Still, it’s all sort of fun in a not-too-serious enjoyable way. Good for some laughs. I watched all 3 episodes to date. Oh wait! It’s HBO, so there’s some gratuitous nudity. Of course. I wonder, the folks praising this film, if they’ve seen Rashomon or The Duellists? I am a normal Asian guy. Not the typical target for this film at all. And I love it!! Truly one of the greatest film musicals of the past twenty years! As an adaptation of a theater musical, it blows away Phantom, Les Miz, Chicago, Cats. Dunno about the new West Side Story, but probably that too. In terms of inventiveness and sheer audacity, you’d probably have to go back to Xanadu (an underrated musical) to find another musical of similar creativity. Hm. Okay, just finished “I know where I’m Going.” Some thoughts: Director Micheal Powell is a genius and one of the greatest English directors ever. You can’t go wrong with one of his films, and such is the case here. Truly a cinematic experience and a superb film! I see why this is considered one of the classic British films. Wendy Hiller is great, so is Roger Livesay. They almost starred together in Life and Death of Colonel Blimp. Wonderful locale scenery, music, dialogue. Petula Clark is in this! Yes, the “Downtown” singer. She’s obviously young, but just a fun trivia point. Thanks for telling me about this film. I am a big movie buff, and I prefer the older films to much of the superficiality we have now in modern movies. I’m about to watch that on youtube tonight. Should be great, just judging by cast and directors! Spoilers The conclusion of No Way Home essentially reboots Spiderman back to his roots. He’s now a poor nobody with a fabric costume and no gadgets. We may see the real MJ in future films. Who knows. The stage is set for Venom again too. I hated Badabook. It’s not bad, but that obnoxious child just killed the movie for me. Killed it. Starfish is surreal. It is really a metaphorical film about grief and forgiveness. Pretty clearly spelled out, despite the superficial storyline of alien monsters (hallucinations?) in a post apocalyptic world. It’s like a blend of Lost Highway, Donny Darko, and Melancholia. I like starfish. I’ll keep an eye on this director! Nope. No interest in a sequel. If one is made,I’ll definitely see it but I’m not clamouring for one. 2001 is a masterpiece. 2010 is darn good but more mainstream. A sequel, in today’s film industry, would be a CGI fest with shaky cams and sweeping camera moves and action sequences. Just look at Ridley Scott’s alien prequels. Also, try The Wolf House, a surreal paper mache / paint / stop motion film that is like a dark parable. Well worth watching, too! It’s free streaming on Tubi, too! I’m a movie buff. I watched this once and never again. Film isn’t in my top ten favories of its release year. If you can see it for free, do so, but spend no money on it. If you like Much Ado About Nothing, the Branaugh film, it has a sinilar mood. I like Prince of Persia. I also like the 2018 Tomb Raider and definitely Silent Hill. I like film noir, so I like the theatrical version of Blade Runner. Voice-overs play a big part of this. The director’s cut has a different vibe that is not film noir anymore, all due to changes regarding Decker’s status as human or replicant. Both versions are good. It’s like Lost in Space, the movie. Once they crash-land, the film stops dead. DEAD! Same thing here. The animated sequence about the deathly hallows was inventive, but otherwise the pacing in the latter half of the film was dreadful. And I say this as a regular watcher of slooow Russian films. The poor acting didn’t help either. Deathly Hallows part Two was much better. My wife looks at me funny when I hum all the tunes to 70’s TV shows verbatim. She grew up outside Western culture and had no clue about Michael Jackson or Buck Rogers or Star Wars until I introduced her. Muscials bore her. Me, on the other hand, I love Fred Astaire films. I find the original West Side Story to be pretty radical stuff, musical-wise, since I grew up watching old RkO and war-era MGM musicals. I don’t mind weird or expiermental musicals (loved Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Tommy, Xanadu). I would probably be the target audience for the Spielberg film, but I don’t care about it. That’s sad, since if a sample of the target audience doesn’t care, then who enough out there does? The lack of subtitles is a non-issue. I am watching Life and Death of Colonel Blimp, a 40’s era British film, and it’s loaded with unsubtitled French and German. This never bothered me and doesn’t distract from the story. Doubtless there are many other newer examples. Shogun the TV miniseries, for instance. Lost in Translation, for another. Spielberg would have done better not to even call attention to this. Modern audiences are more used to being spoon-fed and thanks to the internet, complain a lot more. Very good film. Actress gave tremendous performance. Glad I watched it essentially knowing nothing about the film, other than it had good reviews. Just saw Time Stood Still. Not much there. Just 2 guys becoming friends at a remote frozen place. Unless it was an allegory for something I missed? I want to see Olmi’s Tree of Wooden Clogs someday.
