Not "Magnolia"? I don't get a PTA fan listing their favorites without mentioning Magnolia. It was brilliantly done. Every actor laid it out and Robards gave a fitting performance for that to be one of his lasts. Do you like the Coen Bros? His. 47 y/old. I grew up in the 80s. Acid washed jeans on girls so tight you would think it was painted on. Big hair. Not bare "down there" but not unruly. GnR, Crue, cool music coming out of the Seattle area. Busted. The shame here is that my mother was an English teacher. My edited reply is, "PTA is not pretentious. He is good enough and is working with the top actors. We are all very fortunate that Phillip Seymour Hoffman and PTA had a bond. For an actor that checked out early he sure had a few performances that were award worthy. He is the best director of his generation. Edit-I think that was my last edit, lol. Thank you for your patience. Fair enough. Pretentious? Perhaps, but PTA backs it up. Thank you very much. I like it so far. I came here for the movie chat, not politics or music. I guess these things will eventually converge. why is that? Wow! Love me some AIC. Layne was a tragic figure. Imagine having all the money you want, a top floor condo with all the bells and whistles, and finding yourself so addicted you can't do much more than go to the ATM and wait for your dope dealer. Layne knew very early that we build our own walls, and those walls came keep you prisoner. I'll go old school. Can't go wrong with the Stones, especially when it is forever tied to "Goodfellas", cocaine, and helicopters. https://youtu.be/4Zbnvh6I4k4 Master, you just got blown out of the water. Care to reply to Keelai or untravioletx? Cat got your tongue? Keelai you are slaying it in this thread. I'm not sure how "Master" is going to respond other than insult liberals or some such BS. Which films have you seen of Anderson's? I am not looking for an argument. I'm genuinely interested in the films you have seen and why you didn't care for them. Tarantino makes fun, watchable films. Great dialogue. They just don't dig deep into the human experience. This isn't really a "who's a better director" thread, it's a "what kind a film do you like more" thread. Do you think DDL would ever be in a Tarantino film? Not going to happen. DDL chose PTA. What better endorsement is that? I came here for movie talk. Obviously due to the climate this site needed a political "safety valve" to keep it out of the other discussions. I'm cool with that. I don't have to post in this sub-forum. That said I can't help myself. I come from bitter political forums. That's why I came here!To get away from that! Pretty damned ironic if you ask me. You get where I'm coming from, right? I thought the OP was going to start a thread about fair taxation and then he starts talking about spoiled children of the lower and middle class. Too funny. Have you ever seen Magnolia? There Will Be Blood? Those movies will age well. And what was PTA's deal with testicular cancer? I didn't hear about that. And yes a director should have total freedom. It's his/her name on the product. Well said Keelai. I didn't realize the OPs angle until he started talking about the poor and middle-class spoiling their children, LMAO. Maybe they won't spoil their kids as much? WTF are you talking about? Yeah that would be nice. Those businesses that pay virtually no taxes would never stand for it though. And let's be honest: Those same businesses are pulling the strings of politicians to get favorable tax bills passed. Money begets money. Same as it ever was. Thanks. "Duel" really shows you that the unknown is the most frightening thing there is. Spielberg did the same thing in "Jaws", partly out of necessity. The shark wasn't operating well, so they had to improvise. The barrels disappearing and wondering where the shark was is the most intense part. Carpenter's "The Thing" is another example. Hell you don't even know during the final scene if Russell's and/or Keith David's characters were the "Thing" or not. I personally think they were both still human but that is another conversation. Tarantino used the same formula in "Reservoir Dogs".
