I knew a couple of guys. Kind of similar cases. They were middle class and lived in the suburbs. They were doing things like stealing stereos from cars. I think maybe they were doing it more for the thrill than any need for money. They liked the whole bad boy criminal self image.
Both of them ended their lives of crime afterwards. They did not want to go pack to prison. Definitely a deterrent in their cases.

I heard a clip from the episode in which they correct someone who has misgendered them.
The reality is millions watched it on streaming. Even my boomer parents don't watch television as much as they stream shows. Of course it makes no sense to judge a show's success based solely on it's TV ratings when those are around across the board.
Pretty straightforward logic. When fans of the show have a second option for viewing the show, and the other option is actually the more popular way to watch, it's going to have an effect on the ratings.

Viewing numbers are down for everything. It must be due to streaming taking TV viewers away.
Makes sense. They want people to keep watching, especially that younger generation with more progressive views.

Yeah, I wonder why they bothered setting it in 1968. Maybe they wanted the '68 presidential election to be going on in the background. If they got rid of the occasional reference to the year, there'd be no reason to think it was set in the mid seventies when it was made.
