I forgot about The Hill (I forgot to rate it, too)... Great movie - I love those types.... I put it in place of "The Spy..." (another reason it was last on my list).. I like Richard Burton even though I don't think he's a great, natural actor, and I found that movie (and most spy movies) to be silly mazes with a lot of "intelligence" talk that muddles what exactly is happening.

I saw "For a Few Dollars More" but it's been to long since I last saw it, and I can't think of what score I would have given it.

I've seen all three, but the only one I saw recently was "A fistful of dollars" which I didn't care for -- too much filler, etc., but I remember liking the other 2 more, so I'll keep my eye out if it is every on TV :)

I agree on Sands of the Kalahari, one of my all time favorites. I also read the book. Another favorite which could almost be considered a companion film was The Naked Prey, also from that year.

The Naked Prey

Yes!

Astounding torture scenes at outset are then set aside & the movie agilely plays out.

It can be caught anywhere along the running time & enjoyed.

NOT PERFECT...We didn't need the lost child, but, we got him nonetheless.

reply

I can envision these two films being played back to back at the local drive-in.

reply

I've never seen the Kalahari one. I'll keep my eye peeled for that for sure.

reply

I'm sure you'll like it !

The Collector

Big deal at release.
Grim business.
Was not mollified at ending.

Fine citation, Bill.

The Flight of the Phoenix

Stands tall 6 decades later.

Stewart plays against type & thus locks the viewer in for the duration. If he doesn't do this it's pedestrian fare all along the line. He must do this. & does, admirably.

I can only imagine the skull sessions for this endeavor.

Bill, hittin' it for a 2nd time here---of a Friday morn.

Dr Zhivago
Sound of Music

I also liked The Great Race

Cat Ballou
What's New Pussycat
Help

Cat Ballou is quite funny. WNP features youthful Woody Allen and the sly Peter O'Toole. Help..the Beatles.

Cat Ballou

Dad, the purposeful & intense mixture of high, low & slapstick comedy mixed with horror, mayhem & murder soils this endeavor.

Waiting about for each to surface is self flagellating.

...may I quote you?

I cringe every time the old man proselytizes in this motion picture, howie. It's every 15 minutes on the 15 minutes. When his son gets killed there at the end it is just the living end.

What a pompous ding bat.

reply

a solid anti-war film.

reply

...till his son is [touched]... "Now it concerns us." THEN he's destroying trains and creating mayhem across the countryside, punishing anyone who won't agree & assist him. Just like "Wallace" in "Braveheart."
