The Taking of Pelham One Two Three

*Because Shaw takes command, gets ya vested, heavily so. Classy move steppin' on that 3rd rail after ascertaining New York's criminal statutes.

*Elizondo assists splendidly. He's top class here. Lethal standing.

Death Wish

Bronson substantiates the proceedings on contact. His time in Tucson is key & the trigger. "Angel" from "Rockford Files" is ingeniously set there with the pinpoint goods.

Perfect running time.
Perfect execution.
Except for the very end-the threat of continuing operations in Chicago...perfect movie.

Thunderbolt and Lightfoot

I love it so.

Leaves you with a queasy feeling there at the end. An out of body moment. It was headed there all along,,,Cimino directed us to that end---we was warned like the kid was warned repeatedly by Kennedy. Neither of us listened...every fucking time I watch it.

The pairing of Eastwood & Bridges was one of those rare, really good casting decisions.

reply

Yes. As I've said before here---it is Eastwood giving Bridges room, some of it his room to operate, to impact the screen. Yes, Eastwood had hit by '74, but, it's still a very selfless gesture on his part.

In their mid-70's garb lifted from the middle aged couple they're bright & beautiful. You marvel at the visuals of it. Bridges leads Eastwood here & Eastwood follows.

It's a wonderful story, culminating in boundless tragedy. Upon mandatory reflection the plan is on such shaky ground end-to-end it's a miracle it got as far as it did. Only incredible irony sustains Thunderbolt. In all their travels back & forth thru that small area they hadn't come across that fuckin' school house.

In my mind, they almost look like they could be brothers in that movie.

reply

I actually thought this was kind of a fun movie!

reply

I watched The Conversation a few weeks ago - a great movie until the last 10-15 minutes.

reply

The Savage is Loose is creepy.

reply

It's Alive was a favorite of mine when I first saw it. Bizarre, darkly humored, entertaining little flick.

reply

Yes
The tacky horror b-movies just might be my favorite types and Its Alive was great fun

The milkman and his truck scene stand out in my memory. It still amuses me.

reply

The old Carnation truck
The soundtrack
The blood mixing into the spilled milk on the street

Cool scene!

Jesus, what a terrible year for films. Just went through Wiki's list and the only one I could find I had any real regard for was The Great Gatsby, followed by Chinatown, and nothing after that.

reply

Hi Cat!
Always nice to see you;)

You didnt even like The Godfather Part II???

Explain yourself!!

reply

Shogie! How ya doing?

I got the year wrong, was looking at 1965. But no, I wasn't impressed with either The Godfather I or II, unlike many. I thought The Godfather was decent, but not great, and yes I realise this is blasphemy to many.

Oh wait, I just realised And Now My Love came out in 1974, which is a brilliant film. Probably the first foreign film I ever saw and was only the second feature (which I'd never heard of) when I saw it. No idea which film it is I originally went to see, because I was became so enthralled with And Now My Love, subtitles and all.

I still think Chinatown was pretty good, and memorable.

Going Places was decent -- first thing I ever saw Gerard Depardieu in. It was good, interesting, and the fact that he was a bit of an unlikely babe in it didn't hurt ;)

Nothing else stands out as a favourite.

reply
