Favourite sword fight?

I recently had the pleasure of rewatching The Scarlet Pimpernel (1982) I have always enjoyed the sword fight between Percy and Chauvelin.

There have been some really enjoyable sword fights in movies, what's your favouorite?

My favourite is Wesley and Inigo in the Princess Bride (1987). The banter and music just make me so happy.

May I inquire as to which version?

The original.

I don't think I've seen that one, but I do have enjoy the 1948 one with Gene Kelly. He's just fun to watch and the score reminds me of the final movement in Scheherazade - Romsky Korsakov.

Niles in “Frasier” against his wife’s fencing instructor. Episode “An Affair To Forget”. Too hilarious!

Would you watch a movie of an alternate timeline world, set in modern day, but instead of guns and lawyers, everyone carried a sword and was skilled in sword fights?

I love the sword play in the first Antonio Bandares Zorro film THE MASK OF ZORRO. From what I could see, I believe they trained and used REAL swords, not CGI like many modern films do without you knowing.
There's excellent choreography and location sword fights, that are interesting, entertaining, sometimes funny.
They did a sequel and it might have some good sword action, but I don't remember it, as the story felt forgettable to me.

But yeah, sword play in Princess Bride is fantastic... all of them!

Yes. Yes I would watch this movie. I think I could enjoy it very much.

The ultra-stylized swordfight choreo in the live-action Rurouni Kenshin movies are top notch, especially in the later installments, The Final Part I & II.

reply

I am unfamiliar with these.

This is the best part (in my opinion):

Looks like it's on Netflix. I will check it out. Thanks

Just a heads up... The Final Part II is a prequel. The whole franchise was intentionally anti-climatic. The Final Part I is the real final.
