Movies that gave you nightmares.

The Accused 1988. They made us watch this freshman year of college for a womens study class. I had to walk out and the teacher came out to ask, are you ok. No, I just turned 18 and your making us watch bar rape scenes.

reply

Disney's "Hercules."

reply

May be the old Draculas movies...

Not necessarily a movie, but the combination of watching the IT mini-series and reading the book gave me literal nightmares. I think it was the clown's unlimited access to any private space. I wasn't even scared while watching, but it played on my child's mind a lot, enough to keep me up some nights.

reply

Me too, I kept seeing that clown by my bedroom door.

reply

That makes sense because he visited every single kid in a very private place while they were alone and no one rescued them. He was also really fond of bathrooms, which crept me right the fk out because the bathroom is such a vulnerable space.

No movies I can recall, but if anyone here remembers a TV show in the 90's called "Sightings", and you remember the alien face during the opening credits, then you will understand my continual nightmare I had when I was 9 or 10 or so.

In case you don't remember, here it is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=79HmgT9pbvI

1. The Exorcist. Scared the living bejeezus out of me as a kid. Of course, now I laugh at it, but man...I couldn't sleep for nights afterward!
2. Watership Down. They aired this nightmare fuel on CBS TV in the 80s or something, and my dumb kid ass watched it thinking, "Awww, it's gonna me a cute widdle movie about bunny wabbits!" Saw it and was up for days afterward. Today, I still have trouble watching it.
3. Terminator 2, because of the infamous nuclear war sequence. This movie happened at the tail end of the Cold War, so for someone like me, it was still unsettling.
4. The Poseidon Adventure. I used to watch this as a kid all the time without a problem. But then when I saw it again in college, it haunted the hell out of me, especially that scene where the guy crashes through the ballroom window.

I know what you mean about the Terminator 2 scene where they are incinerated by the chain link fence. That moment is stuck in my mind forever and as an 80’s kid who grew up with the fear, it really registered.

reply

The exorcist. That demon face and voice stuck with me.

I said earlier in this thread that I never have nightmares about movies and then I had one last night.

Has anyone seen the short mini series call “The Spy” with Sacha Baron Cohen? I dreamed last night I was hiding a radio transmitter in my house and some authorities were looking for it. I even woke myself up out of the dream.

I never saw the movie but when I was a kid in the 70s Disney had a trailer for “Digby” about a dog that becomes a giant. There is a scene in the trailer where a kid is going into his mouth and telling him not to chew him up. My next door neighbor’s dog (who was very friendly) kind of looked like Digby so I had nightmares about him becoming a giant and eating me. :-)
