Hands on the Wheel - Willie Nelson
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=71cIYDnDZUk
At a time when the world seems to be
Spinning hopelessly out of control
There's deceivers and believers
And old in-betweeners
That seem to have no place to go
Well it's the same old song
It's right and it's wrong
And livin' is just something I do
And with no place to hide
I looked in your eyes
And I found myself in you
I looked to the stars
Tried all of the bars
And I've nearly gone up in smoke
Now my hands on the wheel
Of something that's real
And I feel like I'm goin' home
And in the shade of an oak
Down by the river
Sat an old man and a boy
Settin' sails, spinnin' tails
And fishin' for whales
With a lady that they both enjoy
Well it's the same damn tune
It's the man in the Moon
It's the way that I feel about you
And with no place to hide
I looked in your eyes
And I found myself in you
And I looked to the stars
Tried all of the bars
And I've nearly gone up in smoke
Now my hands on the wheel
Of something that's real
And I feel like I'm goin' home
reminds me of Tennessee Waltz.
shareI got introduced to a lot of old country via Emmylou Harris. She did Tennessee Waltz on one of her albums. She and her producers had a deft hand at these old ones, and it really helped me to listen to the older originals and enjoy what the were at the time. Great stuff.
shareOkay, it's not a long song. I missed the word 'long' when I saw your initial post. Oops.

I could also just say Meatloaf.
never hear this on the radio
shareFreebird goes 9-10 minutes in some versions
Fine song
FREEBIRD IS THE GREATEST SONG IN THE HISTORY OF SONGS....THE BEST VERSION OF FREE BIRD IS REFERRED TO AS THE "LONG VERSION"...CLOCKS IN AT 13 MINUTES AND 40 SECONDS,ITS THE SINGLE GREATEST RECORDING EVER MADE.
shareI'll need to look this up
You are likely right and I'm mistaken
I had a ridiculous misunderstanding with a good pal in a ski house one time...we were all in the woods near Hunter Mountain, New York in a small rented house and the girl I was flirting with passed out on me so I went to sleep as well...next thing you know my best buddy is trying to swipe my pillow!
He drunkenly crept into the bedroom and accosted me the crazy bastard
So I whipped out my screwdriver (a Flathead in the back pocket never raises an eyebrow) and I chased him out of the house and into the snow
He slept in some girl's Camaro that night, I slept with my pillow and a pretty, passed out Polish girl
Next day he and I went to breakfast at a dumpy diner, Freebird was playing and it seemed to go on forever, he apologized for the attempted pillow robbery and I told him he was lucky to be alive
He actually thanked me for chasing him off and making him sleep in an old Camaro on the side of Hunter Mountain in the snow LOL
Some tunes really bring up the old memories
Freebird is a beauty
That's funny as Hell
shareThanks
It's my pal that makes it all so weirdly funny
He's a big tall rail thin Irish fellow and he punches like a mule kicks...the first time I met him was on a small road by a big church
He was with his buddies and I was with mine, we were from different neighborhoods so of course there was a disagreement amongst the boys
He's the sort that takes the lead so he and I beat the daylights out of each other, he punched me so hard I thought my eye had fallen out and I picked him up and tossed him over the hood of a car
We both wound up pretty beaten and winded and I really don't recall who started it but at some point we both paused, looked each other in the eyes and started laughing at our stupid behavior...We dumped our buddies and got blasted at a nearby bar, where he proceeded to kick my ass at pool
13 years later I got married in that big church where I first met the big Irish maniac and he was in my wedding party lol
Hell, he wound up marrying my cousin!
It's stories like that that make life worth living. Sounds like your buddy is mulitalented.
I never managed to make friends after a fight. Scary bad temper. Age has helped
A little ;)

sharewhat genre is that?
sharepsychotropic funeral doom :-)
shareis that new?
shareit’s super 90s! this recording is from ‘99 and they’ve been doing it since ‘92.
doom metal dates back to the 70s, when bands influenced by black sabbath started pushing their slow, lumbering, dark brand of heaviness to a new level. in the early 90s there was an explosion across europe of new extreme metal subgenres. one of which was funeral doom, doom metal taken to the outer limits of molasses speed, heightened atmospheric sensibilities, typically gothic and phantasmagoric overtones and influenced by funeral dirge music.
this band in particular has a uniquely lysergic take on funeral doom.
i explored pretty deeply down this hole as a teenager so this stuff is super nostalgic for me. i’m on a 90s european metal nostalgia trip this week.
I dislike most long songs, so I checked my computer and this was the longest I found:
