What's the last great opening credit sequence?

I can't think of any I truly love that came out recently. I think films have lost their opening credit touch.

Some of my favourites of all time are: Fight Club, The Untouchables, Batman (1989), Signs and Panic Room.

Or True Detective

Dexter

The last great opening sequences are not in movies. They're in series.

reply

Most shows still decide to keep intros. For some reason movies have decided to avoid it for the most part.

reply

GoT and Westworld openings are damn good.

reply

The Austin Powers movies have funny opening credits sequences

reply

They do. Although part 3 just had shameless cameos.

reply

Catch me if you can.

reply

I don't recall that intro.

reply

It was a 60s-70s cartoon style ripoff, think Pink Panther. Very well done, though. And John Williams, of course.

reply

I just checked YouTube. I don't remember that but it is pretty cool.

reply

I love that kind of opening. Cartoon, jokes and some good jazz music. You barely see them anymore.

reply

Superbad has a decent one.

reply

Yeah I like the Superbad one.

reply

It's John Williams, but it's so different to his usual stuff.

reply

Not really. I mean, John Williams became famous with his symphonic style in Star Wars and Spielberg, so that became his main style since then.

But he had a career before that. Think that his first score was in 1960, and Star Wars happened in 1977. Williams had been scoring for 20 years before Star Wars. And his style during the 60s and early 70s was much more jazzy, very 60s.

This is one of my favorite Williams' themes, Valley of the Dolls

How to Steal a Million, a (absolutely lovely) cult classic 60s movie with Audrey Hepburn and Peter Sellers, it was scored by Williams

No with me, you don't. This is pure 60s jazzy style

Penelope, a very jazzy pop score

Of course, the 'post-Star Wars' scores shadowed everything he had been doing before that. But he already had jazzy pop career before Star Wars and Spielberg happened.

Napoleon Dynamite (2004) with the song by The White Stripes.

reply

The only memorable thing about the movie.

reply

It was one of those movies. Viewers either loved it or hated it.

reply

I’m in the loved it category! 😀

reply

So am I.

reply

I really liked that one
Did you like Nacho Libre?

I really enjoyed both movies but a ton of my friends hated them...as jonathon_k80 alluded to some movies you just love or hate

reply

I've never seen Nacho Libre. He's Nacho Libre, and he's Nach my Libre either.

reply

Yeah, I lent that DVD to a bunch of friends and they all returned it with a 'Dude, WTH? comment...'

This is making me want to rewatch Nacho Libre for at least the 5th time and I blame you

reply

5 times? What's Jack Black got on you? If you're in peril, type 12345.

reply

I find him very funny, School Of Rock slays me😤

reply

Avengers: Age of Ultron opening. One of the best opening of all time.

Mission:Impossible 2 with Tom Cruise free soloing was legendary. And the Limp Bizkit song... wow.

reply

M:I 2 is the only bad one in the series blbut it had the best credit scene.

reply

enter the void has my favourite opening credits of any film.
