Is there life after death?

Face it; this is the most important question there is. I believe there is, in the sense that Alan Watts best explains: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L3MA0n4jEXk
Basically we're all part of Universal Consciousness which is always here; i.e. our awareness is a constant. It can't disappear when our bodies stop working, because the world and the rest of the universe is still here.
It's also described well in Laura Nyro's song And When I Die. Yes the Blood, Sweat, and Tears hit and Bruce Lee's favorite song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GDX27aWnL88
In this era of Covid it's something people think more about. Any other thoughts?

People believe what they want to believe.

> Is there life after death?

Sure. I spent 1993 dead, for tax purposes, and I'm still around.

LOL, Mr. Hotblack!

😎

reply

Thanks! I had long forgotten where that joke came from but was pretty sure it was from some Douglas Adams book. When I Googled for "hotblack" and "tax" I found it.

You're welcome. The classic, but ill named, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy trilogy! Five of my favorite books of all time, by one of my favorite authors of all time!

We're born, we die, and then we are born again. That's what I believe.

reply

Reincarnation; yes, I'll go along with that. Alan Watts says that death is really just the death of memory. When we're reborn we (usually) don't remember our past lives, because we want to start fresh.

Population clock - - This is interesting.
Born and die clock.

reply

I certainly hope that is not the case. I would hate to think that there were people I cared about in past lives that in this life I have no recollection of and I love my family - not interested in moving on and not remembering them.

reply

Maybe you'll be one of the ones that remember your past life.

reply

But perhaps not. Also, I would hate to think there is a possibility that in a future life I would be a terrible person - a murderer, child molester, someone like a Nazi in the death camps. The thought of that is horrible.

reply

i believe in reincarnation, but not like you turn into an ant or a turtle if ya a dick, i just beleve more like the world recylciling itself

If you listen to Alan Watts, he says:
4:07 "Statement one: after I die I shall be reborn again as a baby, but I shall forget my former life. Statement two: after I die a baby will be born. Now I believe those two statements are saying exactly the same thing, and we know that the 2nd one is true..." Then he elaborates on this.

There is only one way to find out.

reply

Go for it. Hah-hah.

The undiscovered country from whose born no traveller returns...or maybe we ALL return!

reply

only if you're famous

but when the sun super novas you're just dust

reply

no, there is not

and yes awareness disappears when our bodies stop working because your awareness is your brain having electrical reactions.

reply

Wow, that's as narrowminded as you can get. Talk about fake news!

reply

well thats why religions were created, to help us cope with this existential dread

reply

I like you. Good answer:)

reply

Narrow-minded? Not at all. Belief in an afterlife is a human defense mechanism on the grandest scale. It's not much fun to acknowledge the truth of a complete end to life . Fear has always been the catalyst in the creation of myths.

reply

Life after death is as improbable as sex after marriage.

reply

So that means there must be as most people have sex after marriage...just not with their spouses.

reply

On a movie site as well *sigh*
