Why do most movies suck?

PLENTY OF GOOD STUFF...JUST HARDER TO COME BY UNTIL THE MOVIE MILL GETS BACK TO A HUNDRED PERCENT....I JUST SAW A BILLY CRYSTAL MOVIE THE OTHER DAY THAT I LOVED...TIFFANY HADDISH WAS IN IT.

I disagree with the sentiment, I think there are plenty of quality recent movies. Same goes for music. I sometimes get a little tired of people complaining about modern entertainment. People have always thought that movies and music were better back in “their day” but to me that’s just a complaint of people who are too old and tired to seek out the good new stuff.

Becasue they have superheroes in them.

I haven't seen an excellent film since 2019.

Well , could you name a few of the new movies you've seen betwen '19 and now that have lead you to this conclusion?

i don't know your tastes, so i can't sit here and give you a list and say 'go off and watch these excellent films.'

but i think there have been lots and lots of good and great things in the last few years. my problem has always been never being able to see all the things that look like they'd be interesting to me. if anything, i think there's an excess problem, in that we've never had so many indie and foreign films available to us.

according to letterboxd, there were 27,253 releases logged on their site for 2020. whenever i hear someone say 'all movies stink now' my response is 'do you really think there's nothing you can enjoy among the 27k films/shorts releases last year?'

i'd suggest going to metacritic, going to their 'best of 2020/19/21' list and trying to find something that looks like it would line up with your interests.

-Bad writing
-Bad acting
-Lack of originality

Try watching something great from the 70s, 60s, 50s, etc.. Sometimes the best movies are the non-classics. If you tell me what you like, I'd be happy to give you recommendations. Some might even be on YouTube. I know a lot of Cassavetes' movies are there, and if you're an experienced watcher (and have seen totally different kinds of movies), you'll really like something like, "A Woman Under The Influence"

"They Shoot Horses, Don't They?" is on there.. And "The Battle of Algiers".. Those three movies are 10/10s

Theodore Sturgeon was a sci-fi writer and his law is simple: "95% of everything is crap".

Think about it. 95% of all popular music produced is crap, which is why the oldies radio stations play music that's better on average than the stations that play new stuff - the oldies stations play the 5% of music that's actually good. So if 95% of movies are crap, like everything else, then most of them suck and it's hard to find a good new movie. I mean, 95% of the old ones sucked too, but the really lame ones have all been lost or forgotten, and now TCM plays nothing but the top 5-10% of all 20th century movies.
