Coleman Classic Rechargeable Lantern - I like it. I am tired of buying batteries

Today I bought a new steering wheel cover for my truck. My old one was getting all worn out and flaky.

Oh, and while I was there, I also grabbed a Punisher skull key chain for my work keys.

reply

What kind of truck do you have?

reply

I drive a 1999 Ford F-150, lol. My dad bought it new when I was 18, and I bought it from him when I was 26. I'm a mechanic, so I've always taken great care of it and it's in amazing shape. 22 years old, and it only has 145,000 miles on it, and I've done quite a bit of modification on it so I'll probably keep it forever. Who needs a car payment?

reply

Mechanic here who’s never had a car payment either. The two trucks I have now are a 2000 Chevy 1500 4x4 and a 1998 Dodge 3500 Diesel. 👍

Nice!

My rig is a 1994 Chevy S10 Blazer w/ 149 K on it.
I have always been on top of the maintenance although I don't wrench it myself.
Problem is it has all the wear of an Everyday Rig w/o the miles.
All the door locks and seat belts and that stuff are worn out and the parts aren't out there, surprisingly enough.
I like the truck but I wonder if it's The Time to move on.
Frustrating because I love not having payments.

I found your seatbelt assemblies at GM Parts Outlet with a quick google search. They're 38 bucks each. I'd post a link, but I haven't been able to figure out how to post links on MovieChat yet, heh.

I found your door lock assemblies too, for 20-38 bucks on various sites.

When you say the parts aren't out there, are you just calling Autozone and O'Reilley and places like that? There are dozens of great sources to get parts online, and for cheap, and for vehicles far older than yours. Start googling, man. I wouldn't get rid of your ride if I were you. With 150K on it? Hell no.

reply

Thank you. I just have never been in the habit of doing this sort of research on-line, and I'm glad you took an interest. For me, being on the computer is down time and meant for entertainment purposes and maybe a little debate. I never do commerce over the internet, but I'm in the vast minority, I'm sure.
But when someone like you gives me a big nudge like this, I do consider it, and I appreciate it very much.

reply

No big deal. Running an automotive shop, I am constantly in the habit of tracking down parts online for the best possible price, lol.

reply

I thought I found an auto shop I trusted and they said they found the belt receiver in the next state but never followed up and simply left me hanging. Unfortunately I take these things personally so I haven't spoken with them since but they were conveniently located and a small business, so for a few months they had won me over.

rockauto is a great US site for parts , I use it in the UK!

Seems they sold a hell of a lot more nissan hardbody trucks in the US than the UK

A $15 electric hand mixer. The supermarket stopped stocking my favourite ginger biscuits months ago and I can't take it anymore. So I'm going to try and make some myself.

I bought one of those metal storage racks that fits around your toilet (legs go to the floor, first rack is just above the tank.) I got it at Target and had extremely low expectations (everything everywhere is crap,) but it actually is very sturdy and attractive.

Now if I could only find a floor lamp with a switch that works longer than a month...

reply

Re: the lamp

I feel your pain. Honestly, you’re better off buying a used one from a thrift store. The switches are pretty good on the 1980s-1990s era lamps. I have two of them in my basement. With modern energy-efficient lightbulbs the lighting is great.

reply

Yes! I got my "new" floor lamp at a local repurpose store. $50 including a great shade. Solid and heavy so it's less likely to get knocked over by my cats. Plus, it's got a 3-way switch, too. A lot of vintage stuff is still better than new.
