Actors you thought were going to be "a thing" but you were completely wrong about.

Michelle Ryan. She was in the short lived "Bionic Woman" show. She was a decent actress and was hotter than Satan falling into a volcano while eating a jalapeño pepper. I thought she would be big just on her looks alone but she never did anything big afterwards.

Aidan Turner. He was sort of big in Ireland. I saw him in "Being Human" but he left the show to do "The Hobbit" movies. He even had the movie star look that the ladies would love. I thought he would be a huge star but I was completely wrong.

Dillon Freasier. He was the kid in "There Will be Blood". He held his own opposite Daniel Day-Lewis. How was I supposed to know he was going to be in nothing afterward? Literally not a single thing.

Paul Walter Hauser. He was brilliant in "Richard Jewell". I thought he was going to get an Oscar nomination. He didn't and has been in mediocre movies since.

linda blair

Wait, she was great in Savage Streets! 😀

reply

‘Savage Streets…Where the only law is an eye for an eye!’

Great 80s exploitation junk, love it👍

Have you seen Tuff Turf (85) ?
It’s amazingly silly and entertaining crap and has a similar vibe to Mean Streets, check out the trailer, it’s awesome!

reply

I don’t think I’ve seen that one. I might need to look that baby up.

reply

If you love trashy foolishness as much as I do you will love it😃

Massacre At Central High (76) also features ridiculous shenanigans and murder with a cast of 28 year old high school kids…Great stuff!

reply

Yes, I am drawn to the more trashy side of cinema for sure, so I have added both. 👍👍

reply

I really liked Tuff Turf.

reply

The 70’s and 80’s B Movies are way more entertaining than most of these big deal films that go on to win awards these days

Give me a high five if you’ve seen Across 110th Street, Switchblade Sisters, DeathRace 2000 or 99 Women✋

Hell, high five me if you love violent, sleazy B Movies from the 70s and 80s in general Dude, we gotta stick together lol

reply

I haven't seen any of them. But I will get my brother to download them for me asap.

reply

Just watched switchblade sisters, omg, loved it. It was legitimately a good flick.

reply

Glad you liked it, it’s a fun movie and the poster is pretty great as well…Nothing beats hot tough chicks with guns!

reply

switchblade sisters is so much gd fun. pure gold. i love it.

reply

Absolute silliness, I loved it when I first saw it about 5 years ago at a local horror movie marathon …this Covid thing ended local movie festivals but I saw a lot of great trashy movie marathons prior to this virus…For 30 bucks you’d get 5 or 6 movies, everything from Phantasm to Blackula…Great times!

reply

A great film. I'm surprised the chick with super long hair didn't have a better career.

reply

Omg! Tuff Turf has some of the worst music ever! 😆

I can’t believe this one is not more well known with this cast.

reply

It’s just wonderfully silly from start to Finish lol!

And how’s about that Kim Richards?
If we made a list of all the hottest 80s cuties she’d be top 5 for sure!

reply

I know what you mean about Kim Richards for sure. I think I’ll always associate her with Escape From Witch Mountain. It’s crazy how it’s all light hearted for the first half then it goes way dark in the other direction. So after all the bad stuff goes down the credits roll and their having fun at another party. Lol

reply

Disagree about Hauser on the basis that he hasn't even hit his career stride yet, and he's booked projects consistently off the back of the Jewell movie a couple years ago. That's pretty successful for an actor, regardless of your opinion on the work itself. He's currently starring alongside Marisa Tomei for his next film.

Here's one: Lou Taylor Pucci. After a string of acclaimed lead performances in indie films, he started taking lesser supporting roles at the start of the 2010s. He seems to be getting consistent character work with the occasional lead role, but it's far from the heights of stardom that his earlier roles suggested. Maybe that's exactly where he wants his career to be right now, so who knows?

reply

Actually going over his filmography, Hauser has been in big stuff. But I still feel like he should be bigger considering he has been in theatrical films.

reply

Give it time. His talent will take him far, and the last couple years haven't elevated a whole lot of careers.

reply

He had a big Twitter meltdown a few days ago. So his career might be slowing down considerably :/

reply

Kurt Russell. He was not The Thing.

reply

Get out. I'm revoking your moviechat licence

reply

I thought he was going to be The Thing. James Arness was The Thing in the original film, and he was on Gunsmoke forever.

reply

Well I guess that's what I get for not getting around to watching that one lol

reply

Amazin

reply

Don't make me hurt you....All of these people are unknown....

reply

I know. I thought they were going to be big but aren't.

reply

Logan Marshall-Green. I know he’s been in a few big budget productions but there hasn’t been the breakout role I was expecting. The last thing I saw him in was Spider-Man Homecoming but it was nothing more than a bit part and he was unceremoniously killed off in the first act.

I guess this world ain’t big enough for two Tom Hardys.

reply

Javier Bardem and Jeffrey Dean Morgan are the same person. If there can be two of those, there can be two Tom Hardys.

reply

Dane DeHaan and Leonardo DiCaprio.

reply

I like that Jeffrey Dean Morgan, he could be big! He’s got that cool Sam Elliot ‘sly and dangerous’ look down pat

I’d watch that dude in way more movies, he should be a bigger star but maybe this global virus has slowed everybody down for now

reply

He's in The Walking Dead. I gave up on that show 27 seasons ago.

reply

He was really good in Upgrade (2018). I'll always remember him as Ryan's brother on the O.C.

reply

I think I watch too many Brit shows because I thought Aidan Turner was going okay. Looking at his IMDB page, I agree with you, I thought he'd have more on the go. I found him really attractive in Being Human.

Whip Hubley. I thought after Top Gun he would go somewhere, and then he did Russkies. That couldn't have helped.

Amber Scott. She was Maggie in Hook. I'm assuming that she didn't like acting as a kid. I thought she did well and was a really cute kid. But she didn't do anything else.

reply

Even the kid who played Amber Scott's brother in "Hook" fell off the face of the earth after he did "Can't Hardly Wait".

reply

I thought he was a lawyer, or something else professional like that.

reply

Anna Paquin
Devon Sawa
Eddie Furlong
Thora Birch

reply

Anna Paquin was in X-Men, True Blood and Almost Famous. I think she did alright.

reply

Yeah I saw her in X-Men and I thought she's gonna be huge! I was wrong. A chick flick and a TV show were not what I was thinking.

Also, basically the GoT alumni... Daenarys, Jon Snow, Sansa and Arya. They went okay-ish I guess, but not as I was expecting.

reply

The GoT young alumni are still early in their trajectories. I don't know if they were super-talented, they mainly matched their characters well? At least that's what I thought. But now they are big names so that should help them in the future.

reply

GOT really did have a wonderful main cast and so many of them were actors I’d barely or never even heard of before

I’d like to see them all working more, especially Maisie Williams who played Arya, she was so great on that show

reply

"Devon Sawa"

I recently saw him in Hunter Hunter. He doesn't last long in the movie, but he makes an impression. The movie itself is bonkers, particularly the end. Worth the watch.

reply

Bonkers as in good or bad?

reply

Armie Hammer

reply

Tasty choice…

reply

Could have been on his way if he wasn't so hungry.

reply

Well when you have almost the same name as a baking soda you probably won’t get that many people excited about you.
