Sweet and savory

Mixing sweet foods with savory foods (ex: fruit glazes on meat or dipping a french fry into a milkshake). Criminal or delicious?

If delicious, what is a combo you like?

reply

Honey glazed Ham is great.
It’s even better when pineapple is added to the dish.

reply

I am generally on the side of not mixing sweet and savory, but honey glazed ham is one of my exceptions!

reply

Delicious.

Salted peanuts with Coca-Cola; a popular pastime in Atlanta, Georgia.
Oh, and RC Cola with moon pies. There's an annual festival held about them in Tennessee.

reply

My husband is also a fan of Coke and peanuts.

Sahale Valdosta Pecans

There's something about the brown sugar and black pepper mix that intrigued me when I first tasted them.

reply

I was not familiar with those. I guess the black pepper gives them a bit of a kick!

reply

It really does!

reply

I like Hawaiian pizza every now and then.

Chinese sweet and sour chicken/pork/shrimp (there's really nothing sour about it). A mix of sweet and savory that I really like.

Cantaloupe and prosciutto.

reply

I had never really thought about it before, but you're right, sweet and sour sauce isn't very sour. Maybe it depends on the recipe and sometimes it can be a little tangy.

Speaking of Chinese food I like crab rangoon which I guess is another example of sweet and savory together.

reply

I love Crab Rangoon, it’s a
MUST if we order Chinese takeout.

reply

Not many people like Pineapple on a Pizza, but I'm all for it

reply

I simply prefer "savory", though I do dab into honey-mustard sauce from time to time.

reply

Love me some Chicken McNuggets with honey-mustard sauce!

reply

Ooooh Weeeee!!!

reply

I am a great lover of Chicken McNuggets and if I'm not eating them plain, I like them with plain honey. Maybe I like more sweet and savory combinations than I thought. 🤔

reply

I'm starting to consider the only reason for your OP post is to make everyone so hungry! lol

reply

I am kinda wishing I had some Chicken McNuggets right about now.

reply

Haha😄

All of this savory food talk is gonna make me fat again…I best go to bed soon!

reply

Mmmhhhhh, just imagine eating a 20-piece chicken McNugget meal with honey mustard and the OLD sweat & sour sauce before nigh, nigh?

So, num, num, num, num, num!!!

reply

You are killing me!
STOP IT!!!

It's just plain awful.

reply

I'm the same. If I had to pick between sweet and savory, I would choose savory.

reply

A fruit glaze on meat can be good, dipping a french fry into a milkshake is just vomit. Just like pineapple on a pizza.

reply

I'm glad someone agrees with me on french fries and milkshakes! When my husband first introduced the concept to me years ago I thought it was just some weird thing he did but then I learned it was a "thing".

reply

We just dip 'em in loads of mayonnaise over here.🙂

reply

That’s actually really good👍

Vinegar is very good as well.

reply

I'm certainly more of a savoury person but I do prefer chocolate with something salty, like chocolate pretzels, or potato chips.

reply

Unfortunately I can't have milk chocolate or dark chocolate, but I can have white chocolate and I do love me some white chocolate covered pretzels.

I came into this thread fully prepared to say that I thought it was criminal to combine sweet and savory but I keep finding examples that are delicious. 😂 I've been fooling myself all these years!

reply

THAT SOUNDS GROSS TO ME....KEEP MY FOODS SEPERATED LIKE A CHILD WHO DOESN'T WANT THEIR PEAS TO TOUCH THEIR MEATLOAF.

reply

😂 That's the stance I thought I had until I started this thread and realized I'd been living a lie all these years.
