The scariest monster of all 😳

Of all the monsters you've ever seen from various horror and sci-fi movies/TV shows, which one scared you most of all? Maybe even to the point where you jumped and/or averted your eyes?

For me:
As a child: Large Marge from Pee-Wee's Great Adventure

As an adult: Nosferatu

reply

Child: Girl from exorcist
Today : nothing scares me

I did get an eerie feeling from "it follows"

reply

The girl from The Exorcist is another good one! I liked that movie.

HOUSE (1985)

WHEN ROGER COBB GOES THROUGH THE MEDICINE CABINET INTO THE BLACK VOID AND THAT FLYING FRIGHT FUCKER COMES AT HIM....TERRIFIED ME AS A KID.

reply

I tried to Google it. Several monsters came up and I'm not sure any were the right ones, but they were too scary looking for me to research further! 😂

reply

BEFORE HE GOES IN A BUNCH OF SCARY HANDS AND TENTACLES TRY AND GRAB HIM....MY AUNT RECORDED HOUSE OFF HBO FOR ME WHEN I WAS SIX YEARS OLD...I GREW UP WATCHING IT...AND FOR MANY YEARS IT SCARED THE SHIT OUT OF ME.

reply

As a child, my dad let me watch Salem's Lot (1979) on CBS at 9PM, iirc. The Danny Glick at the window scene gave me nightmares for days. Have been a lifelong horror fan, partly thanks to that.

As an adult, the character who actually had me thinking, "please don't kill anyone else" in the theater was Anton Chigurh from No Country for Old Men (2007). And if he doesn't count as a monster, then the entity from It Follows (2015). And if *that* doesn't count, then Hugo Fitch the ventriloquist's dummy from Dead of Night (1945).

reply

I like some of the horror movies from the late '70s and early '80s like The Omen and The Shining. I bet I would like Salem's Lot.

reply

Personally, it hasn't held up as well for me, being a TV movie that took a lot of liberties with the King book, but dammit, if it still doesn't have some of the best-looking vampires. Worth a watch, but go in with low expectations is my recommendation.

reply

Oh yeah, that Salem's Lot scene scared the shit out of me even as a teenager!

reply

Ha! And on a personal note, it really didn't help that I was a city boy, visiting my dad in (very) rural VT! I was used to falling asleep to police sirens and car horns; the pitch blackness and crickets of the VT night really creeped me out as a kid. Love it now, of course...

reply

Hey, I live in rural Vermont! Whereabouts did your Dad live?

reply

Closest general store is Mount Holly, kind of between Rutland and Ludlow. Hope to make it back for Thanksgiving and do a tour of family near St. J., Brattleboro, Mt. H., and Great Barrington, MA. Most times we all gather in one spot, which saves gas... :D

[edit] And I knew that (not a stalker). That's why I mentioned VT. :D

reply

As a child: The Childcatcher from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang

As an adult: I warn anyone I meet with kids to not let them watch Chitty Chitty Bang Bang!

reply

I never watched that movie but I just Googled him and I can see why he would have scared you! Yikes!

reply

Not a monster, but as a child, the disembodied hand in "...And Now The Screaming Starts" had me looking behind chairs/curtains/bed before I could settle down for quite some time.

As an adult, I'd say the one from Sinister was pretty creepy.

reply

Y'all keep making me Google terrifying monsters! 😂

reply

As a child: JAWS

As an Adult: Nothing

reply

Jaws himself didn't scare me but what he did to those swimmers did! 😳

reply

As a child: The Thing (from another world) James Arness

As an adult: Igore , Marty Feldman, Young Frankenstein

reply

Igore 😂🤣

(clearing throat)

I mean yes, yes he was quite frightening.

reply

As a child: 'Poltergeist III' (1988) The dead trying to take over human bodies -- that's how I remember it, I prolly need to watch the film again.

As an adult: 'Running Scared' (2006) Elizabeth Mitchell's child predator character.

reply

Yikes! Well, monsters come in all forms. 😬
