Finally, some love for Moonraker! I don't understand why people automatically default to trashing Moonraker, simply because of the outerspace concept. I thought it was awesome...and a tremendous follow-up to that other Bond gem: TSWLM.

Those 2 movies really captured that 70's-era Bond feel. And maybe I'm partial because I was a kid in the 70's...and watching these 2 movies with my dad when they came on the ABC Friday Night Movies....I remember just loving everything about them. Plus, how can you not love Moonraker for bringing Jaws back!

The amazing locales (Carnival/Rio looked amazing)....the great opening credits/song....the beautiful women (that chopper pilot, omg)....the cool stunts, like the cable car scene...skydiving scene....and the scene where Bond had to disable that spinning training chamber he was trapped in, etc...

Every time i watch TSWLM or Moonraker, I get taken back to a great time in my life, discovering Bond films for the first time...as a kid in the 70's. So gain, maybe I'm not being impartial....but I think Moonraker gets way under-appreciated. :)

Yes, I have also wondered dislike for Moonraker. It was the first Bond movie I saw (and the first movie I watched twice in theater, which was a big deal at the time) and it made me a Bond fan. I'm not saying that "silly" Bond ala Roger Moore is the only way to go, I also like Craig's Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace, which are more serious (or From Russia with Love from the older movies), but I recognize a good filmmaking when I see it.

Moonraker, as silly as it is, is more fun and re-watchable than Brosnan or Craig films.

Totally. It was trendy to bash Moonraker for years but people are starting to get over the ‘crazy’ outer space stuff. A space station is hardly more ridiculous than an underwater megabase FFS.

Moonraker is great scene after great scene, opening with possibly the best pre-credits sequence ever, and ending with the best one-liner from Q. Also, Drax’s dialogue is relentlessly quotable, I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve asked someone ‘can I press you to a cucumber sandwich?’ and the space stuff is drenched in some of John Barry’s finest work.

Moonraker is absolutely in my top 3 Bonds.

Moonraker has its silly moments, but its still good fun at the same time. I know TSWLM is highly rated out of the Moore films but for me it is really night and day compared to Moonraker. TSWLM has bored me the last few times I have watched it.

The Moore Bond films were for people who don’t really like Bond films, just like An American Werewolf In London is for people who don’t really like Werewolf movies. In both cases, the film(s) ignore the heart and BALLS of the source and instead go for the lowest-common-denominator N’yuk-N’yuk’s—just like MovieChat.

I agree with the OP--"Moonraker" was the worst. I went to a theater to see it when it was originally released, and I couldn't stay awake. Torture. I like all the other Moore Bonds.
