MovieChat Forums > Candace Cameron Bure Discussion > Ditches Hallmark for GAC

Hallmark was starting to gay up its family content... Hopefully GAC can produce wholesome family content.

reply

Wholesome family entertainment, including lots of AR-15's.

reply

I have not seen any violence in their family programs.

reply

Just in your party will all the guns and shit.

reply

I have no idea what you are talking about.

reply

No surprise there.

reply

Yes, as you probably don't subscribe to Joe's values

reply

Trump and Biden are two of the worst presidents in U.S. History. Hands down. Better luck next time, cuck.

reply

I agree with you to a point. Under Trump, the economy turned around, but he shot himself in the foot during his last year in office with his cavalier attitude towards Covid.
But, under Biden, the economy tanked with prices going through the roof.
Plus, I believe that Biden is basically a puppet for the liberal Democrats.

reply

GAY UP?...WHOLESOME FAMILY CONTENT?...SO...WHOLESOME MEANS NO GAYS? NOEMOJI

reply

Jumping to unrealistic extreme conclusion... Typical

reply

GAYS CAN BE INCLUDED AS LONG AS THEY ARE SINGLE AND FEISTY? NOEMOJI

reply

Yes, wholesome means no gay characters. It worked for ONE HUNDRED years of Hollywood movies and 70 years of tv.

reply

There have been gay characters in films for decades. This one hundred years with no gay characters didn't exist.

reply

I'm sure you can name some mainstream movies with openly gays characters other than Brokeback Mountain and The Bird Cage, then.

reply

I just went back to the 90s. These are some off the top of my head.

My Own Private Idaho (1991)
Heavenly Creatures (1994)
But I'm a Cheerleader (1999)
The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert (1994)
Boys Don't Cry (1999)
Philadelphia (1993)

reply

You named "Philadelphia" and 5 movies most people have never heard of. The reason you had to name 90s movies is because there are hardly any before that decade from Hollywood.

reply

My Own Private Idaho was with Keanu Reeves and River Phoenix. It was well known at the time.

Heavenly Creatures is a Peter Jackson movie with Kate Winslet.

Priscilla, Queen of the Desert won an Oscar.

You also reminded me that I missed To Wong Foo Thanks for Everything, Julie Newmar (1995).

reply

Also, didn't Dog Day Afternoon have a trans character?

The Boys in the Band (1970)
Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975)

reply

Those movies are all fairly well known, at least among people who know cinema.

reply

I also forgot to mention that Hilary Swank won best actress Oscar for Boys Don't Cry.

reply

Good list.

reply

Some notable ones include:

Michael (1924)
Mädchen in Uniform (1931)
Olivia (1951)
Suddenly, Last Summer (1959)
The Children's Hour (1961)
Cabaret (1972)
A Very Natural Thing (1974)
Dog Day Afternoon (1975)
A Special Day (1977)
Cruising (1980)
Victor/Victoria (1982)
The Hunger (1983)
Desert Hearts (1985)
Kiss of the Spider Woman (1985)

reply

I would have also put Fried Green Tomatoes, but the movie didn't make it obvious.

reply

Also more recent ones

Carol (2015)
Milk (2008)
Love, Simon (2018)
The Kids Are All Right (2010)
Hedwig and the Angry Inch (2001)
Monster (2003)
Blue Is the Warmest Color (2013)
Can You Ever Forgive Me? (2018)
Call Me By Your Name (2017)
Moonlight (2016)

reply

Don't forget "Zorro the Gay Blade" and the Blue Oyster bar in Police Academy.

reply

YOU JUST GOT DESTROYED BY THE TWO NICEST PEOPLE I KNOW...GO BLOW YOURSELF, HOMOPHOBE. NOEMOJI

reply

Not really, and turn off your caps lock, HETEROPHOBE.

reply

ABSOLUTELY, AND NOPE, I AM NOT SCARED OF STRAIGHT FOLK...I AM ONE. NOEMOJI

reply

Nobody believes you, HETEROPHOBE.

reply

OK...THAT'S COOL...I'M GAY THEN. NOEMOJI

reply

Really only had 20 years where TV followed the Hays Code. They've been fleeing that stance ever since.

70s TV was kind of edgy. Soap operas, Mary Tyler Moore, Norman Lear, SNL, MASH. Nobody came out and explicitly said Charles Nelson Reilly was gay, but it was pretty easy to read between the lines. Three's Company was about stuffy landlords refusing to rent out to unmarried coeds & only folded under the false belief that Jack was gay.

Fairer to say gays were objects of pity/ridicule.

reply

Yes, one does hope so. Hallmark never produced the kinds of things that I personally cared to watch, but I at least appreciated that there was a family-friendly network out there. It's shame they've decided to go in the direction they have gone. Good for Bure for jumping ship.

reply

Hallmark still has Lacey Chabert. I think that those who left Hallmark for GAC are getting more freedom at GAC. Like being able to direct and write more projects. I will miss Jen Lilley more than Bure, but I am sad to see them both go. I don't even know where I can watch GAC movies as it's only available in the US.

Candace Cameron Bure Says Great American Family Will Not Feature Gay Couples, Focus on ‘Traditional Marriage’ Instead

https://www.datalounge.com/thread/32006354-candace-cameron-bure-says-great-american-family-will-not-feature-gay-couples-focus-on-%E2%80%98traditional-marriage%E2%80%99-instead

While Hallmark Channel is leaning into more inclusive storylines, Candace Cameron Bure and Great American Family are seemingly doing the opposite. In a new interview with The Wall Street Journal, Bure, who exited Hallmark to join former CEO Bill Abbott at the new company earlier this year, opened up about her new role as chief creative officer.

“My heart wants to tell stories that have more meaning and purpose and depth behind them,” she said about making the change. “I knew that the people behind Great American Family were Christians that love the Lord and wanted to promote faith programming and good family entertainment.”

Not only is Bure able star in her choice of films, but she’s also producing religious titles under the “Candace Cameron Bure Presents” banner. Still, the move has come with a great deal of controversy, with her telling WSJ that Hallmark is “basically is a completely different network than when I started because of the change of leadership.” (The network, in turn, commented, “We want all viewers to see themselves in our programming and everyone is welcome.”)

While Hallmark is doing a strong push for more LGBTQ+ storylines — their first original holiday movie focused on a same-sex couple debuts next month — that won’t be happening at Great American Family, Bure said.

“I think that Great American Family will keep traditional marriage at the core,” she said. Abbott added, “It’s certainly the year 2022, so we’re aware of the trends. There’s no whiteboard that says, ‘Yes, this’ or ‘No, we’ll never go here.'”

reply

Finally!

Glad some people still respect traditional values.

Hallmark trying to be sneaky by corrupting their viewers with the Rainbow Reich agenda is pretty sick.

It was obvious people tuned into that channel for wholesome, family-oriented content, but they decided to go in the complete opposite direction of that.

reply

Hallmark's content is still wholesome and family oriented.

reply

Not if they're trying to encourage people to think that being gay is okay.

reply

BEING GAY IS OKAY...YOU HOWEVER ARE VERY NOT OKAY. NOEMOJI

reply

It’s okay to be gay, but it’s also gay to be okay…..do
You understand?

reply

DO YOU? NOEMOJI

reply

Illness spreads, stay safe Bud.

reply

Being gay is okay.

reply

it is, but it's also okay to not enjoy gay acceptance propaganda every minute of the day across all media

This is literally nothing okay about being gay. There's a reason why Natural Selection deigned homosexuals as genetic dead ends.

reply

None of that has anything to do with Hallmark having gay characters in some of their movies. No one is going to suddenly turn gay because there was a gay couple in a Hallmark movie.

reply

It's about people not wanting to see divisive, debilitating lifestyles on-screen promoted as a good thing.

It's like if Requiem for a Dream celebrated heroin addiction, or Trainspotting was about the upsides to chasing the dragon.

Don't worry, it gets better...

reply

Diversity in Hallmark films is a good thing, you just refuse to see it because of your bigotry and prejudice.

reply

I agree with you. Good for Bure. I really can admire and appreciate her commitment to her core values. She was a star at Hallmark and still walked away to do something different because of the direction the Hallmark leadership is pushing the network in.

It's a shame that the gay agenda has seeped it's way into nearly every nook and cranny of the entertainment industry. It wasn't like this when I was growing up.

reply

Exactly.

I used to be like a lot of Liberals when I was younger with the "live and let live" and "diversity is fine", but I started seeing how much harm a lot of these alternative lifestyles bring to people, and the addictions, substance abuse, and destroyed lives that come along with it.

Back when I was consuming media the homosexual lifestyle was at the fringe of entertainment media, and I didn't mind it back then because it was far and few between, usually in foreign films or politically charged films. It gave you something to think about and was apart from the norm.

However, these days it's not like that at all. These days, homosexuality is literally everywhere; in almost every TV show, movie, book, comic, and video game to some degree or another. It's become inescapable, and a lot of times it's a gateway for cultural cultivation in leading impressionable minds down dark pathways like the whole child-trans movement, or getting teens/young adults to experiment with polyamory. Very dark and demented stuff that can scar or permanently cripple people either psychologically and/or physically.

reply

Last night I was watching The Peripheral on Amazon. It's been a good show so far, and in some ways felt like old school entertainment (the women mostly still act like women, for instance, even in the moments where they're being tough), but of course in episode five they had to throw some lesbian shit in there just cuz.

It really makes you wonder if Hollywood's goal is throw something gay in literally every single show and movie until you are just forced be indoctrinated. Back in the day gay characters and situations were rare, and often times when they were thrown in it was for comic relief or it was only lightly implied that a character might be gay without being explicit about it.

I definitely agree with you that this is leading people--especially young people--down a very dark path. Sometimes I think that Gen Z is already just totally fucked.

reply

Yep, it's expected these days. It makes watching anything coming out of the West a manic chore, because you're not sure if it's safe for the kids or not, even if it's supposed to be for the kids, like that one Mitchells vs The Machines.

In the case of The Peripheral, I saw the trailer and thought it looked cool, but I actively avoid most Amazon, Netflix, and Hulu stuff these days. I might check out a South Korean or Indonesian flick on Netflix, but yeah, there's always some homosexual content thrown in, sometimes blindsiding viewers out of nowhere, and usually it has nothing to do with the story or character development in relation to the overall story.

I definitely agree with you that this is leading people--especially young people--down a very dark path. Sometimes I think that Gen Z is already just totally fucked.

Pretty much. But only in the West. In China, they limit what their teens/tweens can access when it comes to social media, and their version of TikTok is educational and aspirational, teaching kids important info on how to survive, advance, and evolve in our ever-changing society, as opposed to bombarding them with Rainbow Reich degeneracy and other degrading antics:
https://twitter.com/60Minutes/status/1589418795243917312
https://archive.ph/MFLat

Hence, why in China their teens aspire to be astronauts or engineers, whereas in the West kids aspire to be a multi-pronoun, physically-butchered, androgynous, pill-popping, influencer.

So you're 100% right... Zoomers are doomed.

reply

Diversity a bad thing? Wow just wow. Get back on 4chan dude

reply

Is diversity in and of itself a positive? Diversity for the sake of diversity?

reply

Explain when diversity is done for the sake of diversity. I don't want to hear complaining about a role changed or portrayed differently. If the race if a character isn't essential it's fine to portray them anyway you want.

reply

I recently watched a movie where the husband of Agatha Christie, Max Mallowan, is played by a black man. Max Mallowan was a real person. He was also entirely white. So why was he played by a black man?

(The movie, BTW, is See How They Run. You can go watch it for yourself and then research the real Max Mallowan.)

reply

If it's a real person I get it being a problem. If it's a fictional character and the race isn't essential then it's not an issue. The prime example being Selina Kyle/Catwoman. Her race isn't essential and she has been portrayed differently than white in the comics. Year one and outside of that Eartha Kitt. However people still get all bent out of shape about it.

reply

Anyone paying attention now realizes calls for diversity in tv shows is a dog whistle for "We hate white people, heterosexuals and Christians."

reply

Yeah, and YOU'RE the brilliant shaman bringing the news. I want to fucking puke.

reply

The truth makes you puke? Ah yes, you hateful leftists ARE allergic to the truth.

reply

Is he wrong, though?

reply

I do not understand how showing a gay couple in a movie means "we hate heterosexuals!" Or showing a movie with a diverse cast means "we hate white people". Or showing a movie with non Christians means "we hate Christians!!"

I've asked before and all I get told is to open my eyes, it's all around me. I am white. I don't have society telling me, or showing me that they hate me. Straight people, and heterosexual relationships are still the norm. I don't see society punishing anyone because they are straight. Religion is less popular than it used to be. Christianity is declining for sure, but Christian holidays are still recognized as national holidays in most western countries. Just because a society starts to include other holidays, it doesn't mean that you can't celebrate Christmas, or Easter. So please, show me where all this hate is.

reply

I actually would still recommend The Peripheral (so far at least, after five episodes), but that was very annoying.

As for China, while I can admire some of what they do in their country, certainly the cons of the CCP far outweigh any good they do. While I can understand pulling out individual aspects of the way the country is run and finding things to appreciate about them, I certainly wouldn't hold China up as any shining example for the way a society should be run.

But yeah, it's amazing how far Western society has fallen just in the past 20 years. It seems that technology and the Internet has largely been the instigator, or at least what people have chosen to do with it.

Hilarie Burton slams Candace Cameron Bure as a "bigot" for championing GAC Family ignoring same-sex couples

https://www.huffpost.com/entry/hilarie-burton-candace-cameron-bure-hallmark-lgbtq-movies_n_6373f2fbe4b08013a8b04a9c

Candace Cameron Bure’s pledge to emphasize “traditional marriage” in her work isn’t sitting well with fellow actor Hilarie Burton.

Earlier this year, Bure announced she was leaving the Hallmark Channel ― her professional home for more than 14 years ― to join a more conservative network, Great American Family. When asked if viewers can expect the network’s programming to include stories about LGBTQ people, the “Fuller House” actor said no.

“I think that Great American Family will keep traditional marriage at the core,” she told The Wall Street Journal in an interview published Monday.

Her remarks drew a frosty response from Burton, who has appeared in a number of Hallmark’s original movies over the years.

“Bigot,” Burton wrote on Twitter Monday evening. “I don’t remember Jesus liking hypocrites like Candy. But sure. Make your money, honey. You ride that prejudice wave all the way to the bank.”

The “One Tree Hill” actor also called out former Hallmark CEO Bill Abbott, who co-founded Great American Family last year.

“Now they’re just openly admitting their bigotry,” Burton tweeted. “I called this shit out years ago when Abbott was at Hallmark. Glad they dumped him. Being LGBTQ isn’t a ‘trend.’ That guy and his network are disgusting. You too Candy. There is nothing untraditional about same-sex couples.”

The Hallmark Channel has taken a number of small, but significant, steps toward diversifying its programming in recent years. In 2020, the network unveiled “The Christmas House,” its first original holiday film to feature a same-sex couple. One of that film’s stars, Jonathan Bennett, will appear next month in “The Holiday Sitter,” Hallmark’s first Christmas movie with a gay romance at its center.

reply

Hillarie Burton is heterophobic and her hair has gone completely gray.

reply

She's become as big of a whack job as Sophia Bush.

reply

Wait, what happened to Sophia Bush?

reply

Nothing she's just a nutty feminist loon.

reply

It awesome to see her stand up for traditional values. Gay couples and family entertainment do not belong in the same sentence and sadly Hallmark bowed down to the racist woke mob.

reply

YES THEY DO. NOEMOJI

reply

Not when two gay men or two gay women can't create a family on their own.

reply

This is what I was just thinking. Gay "families" are manufactured by man. There is nothing natural about them.

reply

THE FUTURE WILL EVENTUALLY BURN US ALL UP...HAVING SUCH OLD FASHIONED AND INTOLERANT THOUGHTS JUST IMPLIES THAT YOU ARE CLOSER TO THE FRONT OF THE LINE. NOEMOJI

reply

Agreed. It is time for a strong conservative push back against the tide in the entertainment industry. The amount of people who actually want to see a bunch of gay shit in their movies and shows is small.

reply

Make all the gay movies you want Hallmark but Candice Cameron Bure standing her ground on this issue will only be good for her and the movies on GAC will likely gain a greater following because of it.

reply

Her holiday movie premier on GAF didn't even break 500k viewers. Hallmark movies get 5x the viewership. The move to GAF has not paid off for her.

reply

I'm sure Kirk Cameron is available.
