After almost fifty years in the music business, Tina Turner has become one of the most commercially-successful international female rock stars to date.

I always considered her r&b and soul.

Rolling Stone came out last year that Aretha’s Respect was the greatest song of all time.

What do you think is the greatest rock song?

It's not my favorite song, but I'd say Led Zeppelin "Stairway to Heaven" is hands down widely accepted as the world's greatest rock song.

I think Cream's "White Room" is a perfect rock song. Bowie's "Heroes" is another perfectly crafted song.

And I'll get some flack for this but the Sex Pistols' "Anarchy in the UK" has everything a rock song should be.

Yeah. Stairway to Heaven is the anthem for sure. White Room is a great one. Actually anything by Cream. Hendrix. Purple Haze or All Along the Watchtower (this is one of favoriteS). But I think I have to go with the Stones. Sympathy for the Devil or Shelter. Later, maybe Nirvana’s Teen Spirit and Axl’s Sweet Child of Mine.

I agree with all of those. And yeah, "Sweet Child of Mine" is especially epic.

He wrote it but she made it famous. Her recording. This happened a lot.

Willie Nelson wrote Crazy but it’s Patsy Cline’s recording that was the biggest selling record.

Her 70’s stuff and work with Ike would have been rock n roll. But her 80’s come back to me is more pop oriented .

Rock = Rhythm & Blues

African-Americans created Rhythm & Blues which became Rock & Roll. R&B came from gospel, blues, jazz & folk.

I find it odd when people separate Rock and R&B.

Nah, I'd say Rock branched off from R&B and it's now a separate genre.

For example, you can't call a heavy metal band like Metallica or a synth rock band like Depeche Mode "Rhythm & Blues".

It's the same as how R&B evolved from Blues, but it's not Blues.

Rock branched off from Rock & Roll.

Unfortunately, too often meant: Rock & Roll = white; Rhythm & Blues = black.

Whatever you want to call it, I consider both to be the earlier music from mainly the 50-60s.

Later Rock and R&B are not the same as the earlier music. Less "earthy" or acoustic, less soulful.

It's basically Blues and Rhythm & Blues, maybe with a heavier drum beat.

Difference is electric guitar instead of acoustic. But, you can hear the Rhythm & Blues sound in it.

Can we both agree that 99.99% of today's "music" sux in a major way?
