Says there's too much white mediocrity.

When are people going to realize that mediocrity is subjective. Vin Diesel, Kevin Hart and The Rock are mediocre and yet they're all really famous. Also, when you're from a county where black people are a minority, you're more likely to see white people being mediocre in certain jobs.

Stole credit for all the exciting stuff white Western society is supposed to be responsible for.

Just the bad things are genuine!

Unfortunately it's deemed acceptable to 'punch up' and that's why you get people like this feeling bold enough to spout racist nonsense.

The way he's talking he seems to think 'mediocre' white people are keeping super talented black and queer people out of work. He seems to be lumping himself in with the super talented and hard done by people, I haven't seen this guy in anything but it's never a good look to big yourself up like that, very egotistical.

He even used the word gammon which is basically used as a slur against conservative white men based on their skin tone.

Gatwa said that “We’ve got to keep pushing for more. Lots and lots and lots and lots more diversity, lots more inclusion on our screen. Lots and lots and lots of it for all you male gamons out there!”

I haven't seen this guy act, but for all I know, he's mediocre himself.

reply

I think there are not enough Tarzan movies.

reply

Every opportunity he received was due to being black.

reply

"White mediocrity" is a barely-veiled admission of jealousy.

reply

Is he really wrong though?

reply

In that he frames it in terms of race, yeah he is. I don't see any evidence that substandard white actors are elevated beyond others anymore.

reply

I'm thinking more of the ones who often get the complaints of nepotism. I don't really care about nepotism in the entertainment business, as I think it's pretty much everywhere. But yeah... I do think that in a lot of cases POC did have to work a lot harder for the same opportunities.

To be fair, I think Will Smith is highly mediocre.

reply

Mediocrity is subjective.

reply

It is. But I do think that we celebrate celebrity more than talent. In business, why are there so many awful people in management if they didn't get there because of who they know?

reply

Sometimes all it takes is for one person to do one successful thing and then they will keep getting jobs no matter how bad a job they do in everything afterward.

reply

Agreed with that too.

Not to take this to a place that belongs on another board, so I won't say anything other than you don't have to look much further than where I'm suggesting to see mediocrity across the board.
