The relationship was not believable at all.

While it is true that young attractive woman fall for men nearly twice their age, that guy generally has to be attractive in some way. Stewart's character was not attractive in anyway. Never bought it, and it hurt the film.

The relationship made perfect sense to me. Grace Kelly's character was a rich ice cream type of person, who undoubtedly had lived her life with people like herself. Jimmy Stewart's substance would have been totally unique in Lisa's life. That depth and experience and dedication to something beyond himself would have been fascinating. Jimmy Stewart was worth her time and love; he did not sell out for her beauty or money. He was his own person and that was and is irresistible to a woman.

Whether a picture-perfect, young, vivacious woman like Lisa would actually go for a rundown, belligerent loner like Jeffries is beside the point. The actors sell it. And goddamn, as a man, I can say that I'd like to beat Jeffries up and take his place when he says some of the awful things that he says to her.

It's believable enough since Kelley's character seems more engaged with someone like Stewart's who's not so infatuated with merely her looks.

Some of their 1-1's where she could just be a normal conversationalist without having to present to someone, seemed like she enjoyed that.
Stewart didn't have her on any pedestal whatsoever, perhaps what men nearer her age would do.

Having said all that, at the end of the day I can't really see them in a lasting marriage either. She seems she'd eventually want to start a family... Stewart's character no so much.

Besides the fact that he was meant to be a bit younger than Stewart's age, there are other considerations. Jeff was an alpha-male "celebrity" in New York, a well know photographer, that she wanted to "conquer" and "domesticate". In some ways, it seems, she was more interested in him BECAUSE of the fact that he wasn't making it easy for her. She shows a feeling to this effect several times.

Don't lend your hand to raise no flag atop no ship of fools.

Lisa thought his detached demeanor was attractive. It was a turn-on for her.

I didn't find a problem with it at all. O_o And I have always considered Jimmy Stewart attractive. He just wasn't the conventional Cary Grant looking actor of his day. But, I never saw a problem with Grace Kelly's character liking him?

If they had made her his daughter, it would have made much more sense.

How old are you? Just curious.
