While it is true that young attractive woman fall for men nearly twice their age, that guy generally has to be attractive in some way. Stewart's character was not attractive in anyway. Never bought it, and it hurt the film.

Jeff was a famous photographer for, it is implied, “Life” magazine during that periodical’s heyday. Lisa seemed like a society gal who came from a moneyed family so she didn’t need to marry a wealthy man to lead a comfortable life. Lots of women are attracted to high status (famous and/or wealthy) men even when the men are physically unattractive.
