Nobody Does It Better the Best song in series?

With so many great theme songs, Nobody Does it Better is simply wonderful.

reply

I'm the opposite - it's probably the one I like the least! I'd probably go for Goldfinger, GoldenEye, or You Know My Name as my favourite.

reply

All excellent songs that I also enjoy, but musically, Nobody Does it Better and Live and Let Die I think are unmatched.

reply

I really enjoyed those too! You Know My Name seems so British! Except Golden Eye does not belong in same league.

reply

This movie rules, plain and simple.. I saw it on Blu Ray and probably should've picked it up

reply

Yes it is an inspired entry!

reply

Definitely.

Every guy listening to it gets their ego temporarily inflated. "That song is really about me!"

Most modern songs by women these days are complaints about their man. So the song probably has even a stronger effect on men nowadays.

reply

Yes. It is.

Keeping the British end up!

If we are talking about Moore era songs, then yes, nobody does it better than Carly Simon. My ranking of Moore era songs at the moment goes like this:

1. Nobody Does it Better (The Spy Who Loved Me)
2. Moonraker
3. For Your Eyes Only
4. Live and Let Die
5. All Time High (Octopussy)
6. A View to a Kill
7. The Man with the Golden Gun

It was a good era of songs. Only AVTAK and TMWTGG leaves me cold.

Funny, this is my EXACT lineup, except that over the decades I've fallen more in love with "Moonraker" over "Nobody"

reply

Love your list.
I think you are underrating Live and Let Die, which is a musical masterpiece. If you watch the title theme play on a great sound system, it is magical!

reply

I like Live and let die a lot and I had difficulties to decide should I place it above For your eyes only. They could very well be in another order. Its a tough competition and like I said Moore era had a bunch of great songs.

reply

Goldfinger
Thunderball
You Only Live Twice
Diamonds are Forever
Live and Let Die
The Man with the Golden Gun
Moonraker
For Your Eyes Only

all better!

reply

DECIDEDLY better.

And no effete, old Roger Moore.

reply

It's a good one, but I prefer "You Only Live Twice" and "Goldfinger".

reply

I know what you mean...You Only Live Twice is so haunting. Goldfinger is one of a kind.
Both just evoke such danger, mystery, and adventure.

For me the songs are the least important part of the score in a Bond film. But I do pay attention to them. My least favorite songs would be the awful Madonna song and the very inappropriate one from Quantum of Solace (There's an excellent rejected song from that film by Eva Almér).

This song would rate above those two but it might be next up from the bottom.

reply

Interesting! I will check it out! Bond movie themes are a fundamental element of the franchise for most ...I find them all enjoyable to some degree. My least favorite is Never Say Never Again (which was independent Bond film)

reply

Good point... I was not even considering NSNA. I do like the score to that one. It is by Michel Legrand and has some things in common with Ice Station Zebra, but the song is awful and would have to come in as the worst, below the Madonna thing.

Odd thing about that Madonna song is that it plays over what must be a montage of hallucinatory images from Bonds imprisonment and torture, so, at least it's appropriate in some sense.

reply

Madonna's song from Die Another Day is very underrated, I think.

reply

Yes I agree, I am a huge fan of Madonna!
