I cant believe this is rated 6.9

Not that it matters because its legacy is secure. But this was the best superhero/comic book movie decades before they were a thing. And its still on my top 10 list for this genre.

I don't really think of it as a superhero movie. I suppose it shares the ties to mythology. Maybe it's because I'm not familiar with the Conan comics; I know the short stories and longer narratives that Robert E. Howard laid down (well, most of them) so he's a pulp hero to me, and a kind of modern myth, but he isn't a "superhero" or "comic book character" as such.

7 out of 10 is a pretty good rating, no?

reply

It's above average. But it's not "Citizen Kane". Has Schwarzenegger ever been nominated for Best Actor? 🤣

Craftwise it's a well done flick. But 7/10 is about right as a rating.

He's Conan. I'm Onan. And when I say 7/10 you can buy it.

reply

But it's not "Citizen Kane".

It's not. It's better

reply

Yes, much better. Kane was a bore except for the creative camera work, Conan is not boring at all.
10/10

They shouldn't even be compared in the first place -- totally different eras and genres.

reply

True.

reply

Actually he has recieved several best actor Saturn Award Nominations. One for each of the following following movies.
The Terminator
Predator
Total Recall
Terminator 2
Last Action Hero
True Lies
The 6th Day

reply

His movies are always entertaining. I'm just not sure if he's a real thespian though.

reply

Actually, Schwarzenegger won a Golden Globe Award for "Best Acting Debut in a Motion Picture" for his turn in Bob Rafelson's 'Stay Hungry' (1977) starring Jeff Bridges and Sally Field.

reply

Yeah but it was for best newcomer. Not best actor. Jessica Lange won the same category for King Kong.

reply

It is a good Fantasy movie. But for a Conan adaptation it is less than that. I would not watch it again.

reply

The rating is a disgrace.

reply

Yes, the movie was influential enough to make Arnold a star and start a whole 80s genre... but it's not that great. Good, fun, but not great cinema. 6.9 is fair.

in my top 10 of all movies of any genre , i love the story telling and the atmosphere.

reply

The movie: 7/10 sounds about right
The soundtrack: 10/10

John Milius was a director who had something to say, but I prefer his Big Wednesday.

reply

It seems a bit high to me.
