How old were you when you first watched The Toxic Avenger?

I was 3 and a half.

I ask this question because I was reading that fake "Should I let my 7 year old...." Blah blah and all that. Anyway, I was surprised at so many people saying "NO don't let a seven year old watch this!" Because like I said. I was 3 and a half and didn't hurt me in any way. No Nightmares. No Tromaton urges to clean up the criminal society with a mop (However, that would be fun.) I mean I watched a multitude of "Grown-up movies" when I was 3,4,5 and on ward. Robocop, Jaws, Nightmare on elm street were all introduced to me when I was three. Loved them all to this day. I guess I just don't get why kids can't watch the movie.

Never messed me up.

Well, I suppose it did make me a fan of Troma movies so maybe it did hurt me in the long run.

I had to have been a teenager when I first saw this and even watched this when I was in my 20's as well on USA UP ALL NIGHT! Now that was a great show to watch due to all of the cult classic movies that they would show including all of the Traumaville movies.

My mom bought me a copy of Toxic Avenger on vhs when i was 9 or 10 years old. I put it in the vcr at my grandmas place and we only got 4 or 5 minutes into the movie and my mom shut it off and brought the tape back to the store. After that I had a fascination with this movie. I now own the directors cut of it on dvd.

reply

That is great to hear that you own the directors cut! That I heard is the best DVD to have! WOW I am surprised that your mom turned it off 4 or 5 minutes into the film.

It is a very good movie and loved it!

Somebody else that remembers USA ALL NIGHT! Yes that show was awesome. I was first drawn to that show because they played Troma movies. That was actually the first time I watched Class of Nuke Em High 1 and 2. Except they played 2 first then 1, the hot chicks on the tv had a reason for this but it's been awhile, so I can't remember.

I am glad that you remember USA UP ALL NIGHT as well! That is great to hear! Yes it was a awesome show and I loved it too! I would watch the movies for the hot looking women in the movies to be honest with you! I loved the variety of movies that USA UP ALL NIGHT showed and that is why I became hooked onto the show and watched it every weekend.

Those are some classics that you mentioned right there and I always noticed that they would never show the movies properly in order or they would jump or skip out of sequence for some reason. Yes it has been a while since this was on. They had it on in 2002 but it did not last very long once they replaced Gilbert Gottfried and Rhonda Shear as a host.

Gilbert Gottfried was a fantastic host, too. I remember once they played Friday the 13th part 2 & 3, and Gilbert had some really funny skits with Jason Voorhees.

I thought I remember seeing Andrew Dice Clay on USA Up all Night as well..Gilbert Gottfried might have been friends with him cuz Dice and Gilbert were in the movie Adventures of Ford Fairlane together.

reply

Yeah that was very good! I even remember the skit where he wanted to be a Ramone which was funny as hell to watch.

I was probbly around 10 to 12 years old...I saw it on USA, but not up all night.

I remember USA had a Toxic Avenger marathon on. I think I saw 1-4 that day if I remember correctly...it was in the middle of the day to, not late night at all.

reply

The Sci Fi channel had a marathon like that a many years ago. (Sci Fi is owned by universal, who also owns USA.) But four didn't come out till 2000 and it didn't come out to dvd till later (it always takes a bit for new Troma movies to make it to dvd). I don't think Toxi 4 could be played on usa even with edits. It would stop making sense. Not that it makes much sense anyway.

yea, I checked out the date 4 came out on IMDB after I made this post. I must have seen 1-3 because the marathon I saw was aired sometime during the early 90's...I don't remember much from any of them though.

I plan on picking up the box set sometime soon.

reply

I remember the marathon because it either happened on my Birthday (which I just thought was cool) or happened during a holiday of some sort, but I do remember the marathon you're talking about. It was actually the first time I saw Toxie 3, which at that point, I didn't even know existed. Which I suppose IS the reason I remember the marathon.

I think I know why you thought it was four movies though. Because it was. After they played the three Toxie's they ended it with the first Class of Nuke 'em high. Which was also a first for me.

The box set rocks. Great movies.

When they played that marathon, I had never heard of the Toxic Avenger movies...but I knew about the Toxic Crusaders cartoon and toy line, so thats what got me watching it...and then I was amazed by the graphic violence, I specifically Toxie ripping someone's intestines out in one of the sequals and thinking it was the coolest thing.

For some reason I remember it being on a holiday as well...I want to say a Summer holiday, like labor day, memorial day or 4th of July. I don't know...either way I was a lazy kid for staying in and watching Toxic Avenger movies all day instead of going out to play...all these years later I think I made the right decision.

I'm having oral surgery monday morning...This weekend I plan on buying the box set so I can watch that marathon all over again (this time including part IV) while I'm home recovering.

reply

I saw it when I was about 6, in the same weekend as "meet the feebles" wail my cousin was watching me (he was only 15, and had gotten both from a friend).

Compared to meet the feebles, this was nothing.

I miss the cartoon. I can still remember the 'Toxic Cruuuuuuusaders' song. Almost had a tmnt (the 80's cartoon version) vibe to it. I cannot believe fox used to show that as one of the morning cartoons, especially with the mind numbing things they have now. Im surprised they had taste :(

Yes, I remember they did have a marathon of them. I was around that same age too. I was watching it with my little brother and my parents were out shopping and I think when they came home part 2 was either done, or I got into trouble for watching tv,lol. Also, I think it was on a saturday, could be wrong, but yea the weekend (form what i remember felt long). Its amazing the nonsense we remember.

lol, I was about 10 or so when I saw it. I remember when the usa channel was cool they had it on. My lil bro and I had seen it together and we liked it, although I couldnt remember it being so perverted until I saw it today (after so many years) I had only seen it once. All I could remember were bits and pieces (Im 27 now), but yes I have seen movies at almost as young as you and they didnt bother me at all. They made me love horror (well b movies) even more!

About 9, me, my brother and dad watched this and surf nazi's.

I first saw it when I was 9, but during the head smashing scene I got freaked out, so my dad turned it off (then we watched Army of Darkness instead, which I loved). Then, I rewatched the whole movie when I was 13, and I loved it. I'm still a huge fan.

I remember catching part of one of them (probably the first) when I was at most 6 and as young as 3 (born in 1987). It certainly intrigued me. Took me up until a couple of years ago to figure out what it was. My mom also bought me one or two Toxic Crusaders action figures.
