How old were you when you first watched The Toxic Avenger?

I was 3 and a half.

I ask this question because I was reading that fake "Should I let my 7 year old...." Blah blah and all that. Anyway, I was surprised at so many people saying "NO don't let a seven year old watch this!" Because like I said. I was 3 and a half and didn't hurt me in any way. No Nightmares. No Tromaton urges to clean up the criminal society with a mop (However, that would be fun.) I mean I watched a multitude of "Grown-up movies" when I was 3,4,5 and on ward. Robocop, Jaws, Nightmare on elm street were all introduced to me when I was three. Loved them all to this day. I guess I just don't get why kids can't watch the movie.

Never messed me up.

Well, I suppose it did make me a fan of Troma movies so maybe it did hurt me in the long run.

"Hey! wanna play?"

I was probably around the 10-12 year old range. I first saw it on USA's Up All Night. I was hooked from the first viewing. Its now one of my favorite B movies and I watch it quite frequently throughout the year.

I was in 5th grade the first time I saw The Toxic Avenger. I had bought the vhs at Best Buy for like $2.99, used to watch the Toxic Crusaders cartoon so when I realized there were a few Toxic Avenger movies I wanted to see them.

I was 12 too, which is probably the ideal age if you have parents who let you watch violent horror movies. This movie, although brilliant, is incredibly over-hyped. It's not nearly as unrestrained or unapologetic as most people say it is -- in fact it's no worse than the later SAW sequels or the two HOSTEL movies.

To the world you may just be somebody, but to somebody you may just be the world.

I wouldn't compare Toxic Avenger with the Saw movies or Hostel. Toxic Avenger the violence makes seem it cheesie and over the top. Comedic violence.

reply

I know. It's just ridiculous how many people called SAW pussified and then turn around and talk about THE TOXIC AVENGER as if it's the most balls-out movie ever released. It would surely get an R-rating today without any problem.

To the world you may just be somebody, but to somebody you may just be the world.

nah, I think they're talking about Citizen Toxie because as much as didn't care for it, it is more graphic than the SAW series.

1 is definitely tame by today's standards in terms of gore, 2 & 3 (in their uncut forms) are, IMO, gorier than the first one but also much sillier (2 being the better of the two), but yeah.

I warned you not to go out tonight

I came across this film (on tv) sometime in my 20s. This year I wanted to see if my local libraries had it, but they don't. :( I have yet to see this in its entirety.
