Did anybody actually see this in a theater?

If so, what were your impressions? Others? Anybody else in a theater with you?

reply

YES...I WAS 18...ONE OF THE LAST FLICKS I SAW WITH MY AUNT AND GRANDMOTHER...FROM WHAT I REMEMBER,THE THEATER WAS MOSTLY EMPTY AND WE THOUGHT THE MOVIE WAS BEYOND MEDIOCRE.

reply

That's a nice memory to share.

reply

This is clearly one of the biggest box office flops of all time.

Had I been drinking anything, I would have certainly done a spit take after observing the 2.5 rating on IMDB that flashed before my eyes after it posted.

Looks like the budget was $73 million and the global gross was around $30 million. I'm sure there have been bigger flops in movie history, but yes, this has to be up there (look like -58% return on investment if my math is correct). I didn't see this film, but I recall when it came out. At the time, John Travolta was one of Hollywood's leading stars, so it was especially odd that he would star in a film like this. I recall that at the time, the film was pretty much panned in the media.

I saw it in the theater when I was 16 maybe 17, and I have no memory of how I perceived it. I haven’t seen it since, not once in 20 years, so it must be complete shite.

reply

Yes i actually liked this because im a fan of travolta's and it sucks it has the rep of being the worst movie ever i thought it was an interesting concept but to each their own! i remember they gave a scratch card at the theatre that had the battlefield earth picture on it.It was a game where you won money.

reply

Yes. I didn't know what scientology was back then. Thought it was just a dumb fun scifi movie. Didn't realize I was watching a prophecy of some religion or whatever.

reply

I saw this in the theater when I was 20 or so...I was blown away at how bad it was. As soon as the movie ended I got up and stood by the exit to see what the other theater goers thought and they mostly said it was ok.

It was at that moment that I realized that the world, generally, has no taste.

reply

Nah, but I think I first watched it on Showtime or HBO.

At first impression, I thought it was a little dull. I still like some aspects of the story, it should have had a sequel, though I don't know who would watch it.

Still has rewatch value.

I saw it opening night. Full theater I believe. I think me and some friends actually had to go to another theater because the one we went to at first was sold out. It was a so bad that some people just had to see it type of film
