RoboCop Remake vs. Total Recall Remake

Same IMDB score, same domestic gross nearly, originals shared same director. Personally for me, hands down the Robocop remake was way better than the Total Recall remake. Supporting acting, special effects and story was way better in the new Robocop compared to the new Total Recall. Robocop 7/10 Total Recall 4/10.

Whether you like the Robocop remake or not, it's still a Robocop movie. The Total Recall remake, on the other hand, has very little to do with the original. It has homages to the original, but it's an entirely different beast. The Total Recall remake is the anti-Total Recall.

They are both just terrible. In both cases they stray far from the originals and fail hard. They are both not only bad but boring too, which really is a sin with those big budgets. Robocop has lost all the depth of the original movie that had drama, satire, as well as great villains and the whole quality of life theme. This focuses only on the latter and does it in a pitiful family drama scenario. Feeling sorry for Alex Murphy was part of the original but here it's the whole movie with a few action sequences here and there.

Both are glossy digital excrement. Rather like Poltergeist (2015). And no doubt the upcoming Point Break remake as well.

the first total recall could be a metaphor for hypnosis. the second one took out that aspect of the movie... and then it took out mars... you cannot make total recall work without mars. if you take out hypnosis or lucid dreaming you're taking out 'total recall' or the title from the movie so now it doesn't even make sense... but on any level you cannot take out mars from total recall...

I can't distinguish them as far as being *beep* remakes. They're equally bad and 3/10 from me. Skip them both, they're total disappointments if you liked the original movies. New kids that weren't around during the late 80'ies and early 90'ies will probably prefer these versions due to them being a lot more shiny with CGI 98% of the time.

I liked both films actually, RoboCop probably edges it a bit for me.

Well, in that case, I'd also say, the Robocop reboot (mind you, its a Reboot, not a Remake, in both cases) is actually better, though both are far away from being good on their own. So, I am with you on this one.

Total Recall had the bigger lead, but by content, atmosphere and art design, Robocop was at least trying. I still must say, Jackson in his role was an ultimate fail, instead of pointing out an unwillingly sarcastic, instrumentalized host, it was Rush Limbaugh, slender and black but with no gist whatsoever, no motive, no pun. Wouldn't buy that for a dollar ;) Keaton was also very underwhelming, portraying his role without any moment you'd actually feel his misled motives were sinister, he just audited his lines.

Still, while the reboot of Robocop is far away from a 7/10 rating (which would mean actually good) it's a lot less painful to watch as the TC-reboot. So again, I agree with you if you'd say, TR is 2/10 and RC is 4/10 ;)
