Is it woke ?

Seriously please say there are no woke ideology garbage messages in this !

reply

It hits the representation pretty good. There's a few "cultural insensitive" comments but it isn't too bad.

The movie itself is terrible. Unnecessarily gory and over the top, really bad acting, and non-existent story. There is literally no Character development what so ever. There's no reason to give a shit about any of them.

Good. Sounds like the Evil Dead.

But without Ash... A red flag.

reply

Is it that bad? Seriously itโ€™s deemed to be great.

reply

Well, we will see. I'm not a zealot or a purist and if it is good a horror movie, I will like it, irrespective of its level of EvilDeadNess.

reply

Sounds like the Evil Dead.

Yeah, but not in a good way. In a "this is so bad, I feel like I'm watching a professional FanFic" kinda way. The original ED is not a cinematic masterpiece either, but it wasn't trying to copy something that came before it.

The references are cringe too. The close up of the chainsaw, and the epic music that plays when GirlHero#1 picks it up. So cheesy. Although I'm honestly shocked they turned and killed the transkid.

reply

There's a tranny in the film?

Ugh... hard pass. We get enough of that perverse clownishness in real life.

reply

Not officially, but it's implied androgyny with the older daughter. We're not quite at full-on transkids yet. It's stupidly girl-power.

reply

Well, the "brother" is actually female IRL so it's so obvious so there is that too.

reply

The emasculated teenage boy, the last vestige of testosterone left in the kid's body pushes him to explore the bank vault, find the book and ruin it all.

Goddam testosterone, it ruined everything.

reply

The actor is trans, there's nothing to say the character is. Honestly, I took it as a boy.

reply

Sorry, but a female is still a female, no matter what prefix she adds to her pronouns.

reply

That in no way contradicts what I said.

reply

No character development? Read my new post about the importance this film has relating to motherhood regarding main female character. Will agree film has its issues and isn't perfect.

reply

motherhood regarding main female

Yeah, that really had no bearing on the movie other than a few good insult jokes. Maybe it did if you're a woman, but I'm a dude and motherhood isn't what I care about watching a gore film lol.

Hey, they tried, they made a really good fanfic style remake...I'll give them that. But I just don't accept it any more or less than the 2013 atrocity.

Hollywood just doesn't know it's audience anymore. They are Preachers now. They tell you what to like. Fuck them.

reply

No, but your face is.

reply

well, all the characters are female but on of them (Danny) is transgender, the actor who plays Danny is actually transgender

reply

So 'Danny' is a female played by a transgender, or is the character transgender as well?

reply

No, they never talk about it in the movie, Danny is the only guy in the family

reply

Itโ€™s boy in movie but a girl plays the part. They want you to believe that Danny is a boy but itโ€™s a girl! I knew when I saw her. My girl thought it was a boy but I knew it was a trans. Itโ€™s a girl!

reply

I didn't even notice that. He just looked like a teenage boy to me.

If the character is trans, it's never mentioned.

reply

i found it distracting, they should have at least addressed it right away. i kept wondering is this supposed to be a boy or a girl, until i looked it up halfway in the movie.

reply

No. The daughter is a teen who goes to protests, but it's treated as a character trait and not as a soapbox talking point.

I felt underwhelmed by it. Reviewers I watch seem to love it.

reply

I didn't even realize the teen boy was played by a trans person. I guess that would be a mark against the movie on a woke bingo card.

Aside from that there is nothing in this movie that's 'woke'. This is about as non-woke as you'll get for a 2023 mainstream movie.

reply

Wow she was trans! I didn't realize that. That is a tad woke.

reply

The sisters haircut (very woke)
Her poster about fighting Climate Change (Cringey woke)
Mother with a neck tattoo and the obsession with hipster music (Not very Conservative- like)

reply

Yep, ginger is a woman what don't need no man. One of the kids is trans and the other one appears to be gender neutral. Not sure an actual male character got to speak more than 3 lines.

reply

Jesus Christ, hard pass on the woke BS.

reply

[deleted]

I'm as anti-woke BS as they come and I had no problem with this. It's a largely female cast (meant no more to me more than a largely male cast would), one of the kids is played by a trans actor but I never realised (it's certainly nothing that is mentioned. At all.). I would in no way class this as a 'woke film'. It was just a seriously good Evil Dead film ๐Ÿ‘

reply

"and the other one appears to be gender neutral"

I thought she was just plain.

reply

Oh, God, no. Not a single mom. The horror!

reply

Oh, God, no. Not a single mom. The horror!

go ask one of your "babydaddies" for another handout, you'll be ok

reply

Now, let's look deeper at the issue here. Why do men abandon their family? All the woman's fault, right?

reply

Let's look at the main cast: Woman, woman, girl, little girl, transgender.

They're all white (white females no less, the world's most privileged group) but that doesn't count in woke terms because they are all female or female living as male.

reply

Oh there is plenty.

If you want negative aura girl boss, we're supposed to root for even though they show zero positive attributes, you got it
