How is the movie for someone with no knowledge of the game?

I am not a gamer. Last video game I played was Snake Rattle And Roll (no, really). That said, this looks relatively interesting (I like Fassbender) so I'm wondering how it stands "on its own", with zero regard for how faithful it is to the game (games?)

And while you're responding, if you'd throw in a comment about how much or little it uses shaky-cam, I'd appreciate that.

As someone who has played the games I thought it was confusing as hell, my brother who had no knowledge of the games didn?t know what was happening either, Fassbender was great though, as well as the action and soundtrack also there is little to no shaky cam. Hope this helps! :D Happy Holidays!

Thank god! I hate Shaky cam with a passion... of the Christ!
Bourne Identity - great action scenes. Every movie after they Shaky cam'd the heck out of it, and I couldn't tell if I was looking at an armpit, a kick, or anything else.

We just got back from seeing it. I think it stands alone well and that those who have not played the game should have equal opportunity to enjoy it.

Such a studio plant. Ain't gonna save Ass Crap, kid.

Here we go again. Wtf dude get a life

reply

Again? Still, kid. Don't fall for the viral marketing, dummy.

You maybe right. The original poster of this discussion has an account since 13+ years and posted on 5 messages in his lifetime. And the mention of "shaky-cam", is a way to show something, "please throw in.." - such a scandal.

I'm not a huge fan of the games i've played some of brotherhood and thats about it (i found it indredibly slow) maybe i should try another game in the series. im a big gamer just could get into Creed.
having said that i love the premise of the games, going back through the ancestors ect.
i personally loved the film, its very much a tune your brain out action flick which sometimes are what you want.
i do not understand the hate personally i felt it delivered in terms of a fun action film.
Fassbender was fun.
the film had potential to be something more and i got the impression alot of the film ended up on a cutting room floor (maybe following the new routine of cutting the film up and then releasing an extended on bluray to double their money).
If you like mindless action, a cool setting and amazing stunts then you'll enjoy it.

I think they explain everything you need to know, even if you havent played the games. All of my friends hated it, but I dont really understand where the hate comes from. I thought it was a solid action flick, 6.5/10.

I play games, but mostly Mario, and I'll see pretty much anything with Fassbender, Irons, or Cotillard and have a very low standard for action movies, so I'm pretty much in your boat.

This film is a puzzle, perhaps the best produced complete nonsense since "Wanted." although Suicide Squad comes pretty close. Do you remember the scene in Wanted where Morgan Freeman explains, with a straight face, that their secret order of assassins takes orders from a magical loom? Now try to imagine that half the film was spent explaining the loom, where it came from, how it worked.

Wanted worked because it spent as little time as possible on it's silly fantasy premise, and focused mostly on character chemistry and action. Also, it had a sense of humor. Assassins suffers greatly, as a film, because it spends an enormous amount of seriousness and energy trying to act as if it's premise, about a magical apple that contains the power to control all free will, is instantly deep. Watching the puzzlingly stellar supporting cast (Brandon Gleason and Michael K. Williams shows up in small parts) try to sell this as a real story about power and freedom was about as odd as watching these 100 millions plus production values stage actions sequences that were completely without humor, wit, plausibility or originality.

But it's better than Hitman, or Doom, or probably most of the Resident Evil films. Why? Because it's just so dang weird at times. Because the action is competent; they didn't waste that money. So much nihilism; I love the repeated line, "Nothing is true." Instead of shaky cam, there's some mezmerizingly edited martial arts sequences that you have to try not too hard to think about. If you're the kind of viewer who doesn't mind that, even after being captured, the good guys inexplicably have unlimited throwing knives, or that the baddies in the 2015 timeline inexplicably fight with crossbows and clubs, then you might have an OK time.

Wow. I must be really bored this morning.

In light defense, the plotline of 'the Apple' (more frequently called 'Piece of Eden' in the games) is built slowly in the games, and its importance is established by seeing its powers in action rather than exposition dumps. The decision to focus so much on The Apple is probably the worst in all the script for the film, for exactly the reasons you describe.

I suspect the problem is that you have too many paperclips up your nose

Wanted would have been much better if they stuck to the premise in the graphic novel.
And thanks for the tip on the lack of shaky cam and good action sequences. It's one of the things I was hoping for in this flick.

My wife didn't know about the games but she still loved the movie.

I had only a limited knowledge of the game/s, but I really quite enjoyed this right up till the ending. the ending was like oh god we can't hit the 2 hour mark quick end it. but the rest was really enjoyable.

I have never played the games, I tried to do some research on-line and I didn't it too confusing until the end. I felt they left some things open for a series to happen but not enough that you are unsatisfied. The thing everyone was chasing after seemed lame and contrived but it's a sci fi video game so I let it slide; I just thought the Assasins would try to protect the Holy Grail or an ancient Egyptian artificat.

1. BVS 2. TWS 3. Avengers

My mom watched with me and she has no knowledge of the game. She said she spent most of the movie with no idea what was going on, so...
