MaXXXine vs Longlegs

MaXXXine - 05th July
Longlegs - 12th July

Two hotly anticipated horror movies coming out a week apart.

Which are you looking forward to more?

For me in the lead up MaXXXine, by a considerable distance, I enjoyed X and Pearl and I like both West as a director and Goth as an actress. One of my most anticipated movies of the year.

I've only seen one Perkins movie before, The Blackcoat's Daughter (aka, February)... it was decent enough I guess, of course Cage and Monroe as stars interests me. The hype for Longlegs is building up, the trailers look good and I'd now say I'm looking forward to both of them equally. Fingers crossed they both deliver.

I wonder which will do better at the box office and which will be better received by horror fans.

I’ve now seen both and Longlegs is one of the best horror movies of the last ten years and really lived up to the hype and the fantastic marketing campaign.

MaXXXine is probably my biggest disappointment of the year so far along with Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. MaXXXine’s story is rather bland and forgettable, I’m surprised Ti West went ahead with this script, it felt like a first draft that needed massive rewrites.

Longlegs 10/10
MaXXXine 4/10

Seen both. Nothing exactly memorable for this to stick with me. 3-4 years from now I'll have forgotten about them.

Long legs is the better movie by far

One coulda have legs, the other coulda done without. Both turned out awful.

Longlegs shot on a digital ARRI and not film made it look like it was shot using an iPhone12. Its 1988 and this looks wrong on digital. Its not vintage enough. Shot on film with a different filter this might look much better.

MaXXXine looked vintage despite being digital.

Both low budgets, both with a weak story. MaXXXine completely flopped as with many a24 films.
Longlegs was a massive success.

I will give both 4/10 or 5/10. I think i liked MaXXXine better.

Yeah both were not that great. I slightly prefer MaXXXine because it's more fun and I think it will be more rewatchable.

I saw Longlegs last night. I gave it a 5 on IMDB and felt generous. The first review on its MovieChat page also sums my reaction.

I don't plan to see Maxxxine based on comments on this page.

Both are mediocre.
