I think what you are failing to read between the lines is that I have watched so many crap movies over the past 10 years that this doesn't even register on the radar any more.

I assumed that to take the capsule off course by 200 miles to fake the re-entry was not within the tolerances of the heat shield, and it was was something they forgot to think about. It was either too shallow/deep of a re-entry and it burned up in 5 seconds.
"Around the world" is sticking it in all three holes. "The Ultimate" is getting a BJ while taking a dump.
