Neither would I. After all it was never explained how it was possible for more terminators be sent to the past in T2 and T3 when according to Kyle, the time machine was destroyed after he went through. Of course how would he have know for sure it happened other than he was told that was the plan?
I agree - Salvation was going the right direction, just went off track.
All of the good directing in the world won't help if the story line and writing are bad.
One of the reasons I'm not going to go until next week - I don't want to contribute to the opening weekend numbers. I know that is slightly lame,( probably more than slightly), and in protest I really should boycott, but I'm weak and can't resist, so I'll go and then puke.
Why are the first two nullified? IMO, they are in different time lines. T1 is the complete story - the same thing happens over and over with no changes. T2 - something changed because two terminators were sent back and are not a part of the original story and when Cyberdyne is destroyed the future changes, Even though I wasn't crazy about the movie, T3 is what I consider to be logical progression of events after T2 - Skynet takes over, Judgement Day happens only later, and John becomes the leader of the resistance, still sending Kyle back to 1984.
Cameron says that DF is the sequence to T2 and is canon. Well, good for him but that doesn't erase the universe of T1 where John survives to adulthood.
I don't think Linda pretends to be young or look young for that matter - she looks pretty rough to me, but still looks like she is in really good shape. I may not like the story line, but I'm curious to see what she does with the character.
I take it you, and probably most of the posters on this forum, are probably quite young. I saw the original Terminator in 1984 as an adult. Her age is not a factor to me. Perhaps viewing these movies though more mature eyes puts a different perspective on them - maybe not.
Through the years I've always gone to Terminator movies. I think T1 is just about perfect, T2 is great, but not perfect, and the rest I have enjoyed on different levels.
Screwing up a storyline is unforgivable to me, but I have never boycotted a movie and don't plan to start now.
For me the answer is, "yes." Going next Tuesday night and while I may leave the theater wondering why I did that to myself, I want to see Linda Hamilton play Sarah Connor one last time. I'm hoping that regardless how much I don't like the film, I will get a kick out of her in the role again. Too bad they're not killing her off - her character really does deserve a spectacular ending. I always thought the leukemia death in T3 was terrible.
Like Christ, I fully expect John Connor to be resurrected. That is of course unless the film does so poorly that the franchise is finally euthanized.
Of course it really depends on them realizing how much they have pissed off the hardcore fans.
As I haven't seen DF, then I can't really speculate on everything that happens in this movie, but IMO, T1 was the complete story, Kyle was always John's father and nothing ever changed. The only sequel needed was what happened after Judgement Day.
T2 altered the story with extra Terminators being sent back - how that happened is never fully explained. After Kyle was sent back is it possible Skynet was really not defeated and they were able to send more terminators? Was the Terminator in the original movie not the first one sent back? I read this theory on another thread and found it interesting, but it has holes.
I don't see your point about the parallel universe theory. It's the one I buy into. When Sarah and John destroy Cyberdyne the future changed - new timeline. While I wasn't crazy about T3, I think that is the logical outcome of the story IMO. Skynet still takes over, Judgement Day is only delayed, and John still sends Kyle back to 1984. I don't see how another timeline alters the future war.
DF apparently shakes everything up with a new story line that I probably won't buy into, (but I'm still going to go next week.) I'll reserve judgement and comments until after I see it.
I know, it doesn't sound like Sarah goes out in a blaze of glory which would be a fitting ending for her character. She deserves a spectacular death and unfortunately that doesn't happen and the wrong major character dies.
Well, I'm a woman and certainly not one who endorses female domination. Do women in general really buy into this stuff??
I have a few friends who do, but certainly not a majority.
I'm still planning on going to the movie and will withhold judgement until after I see the film, but I think killing John off is just plain stupid.
As much as I liked T2, I have to agree with you. T1 was really the complete story. Just maybe Skynet sent more than terminator back at the same time as the original, but the idea of advanced models really doesn't fly because they were defeated.
Sarah went into hiding with John, Judgement Day happened, and ultimately with John's leadership, humans prevailed. IMO, great sequels could have been make without any additional time travel or advanced model terminators.
They realize their mistake,(sure - LOL), and send a good terminator back to prevent John from being killed. Title - "Terminator Resurrection ."
