I would rank Final Frontier a LOT higher. Sure the sfx are not great, Some scenes should have been cut, but this the closest to TOS in spirit that star trek films ever got. The character interactions were never better than here, warts and all. I loved ST:TMP the director cut. It was the most epic of all Trek films. WoK is still best, of course. No contest there. I feel Moonraker was great up until the space launch. After that, it became rather silly. But until that point, it was just as good as Spy Who Loved Me. Blame Star Wars effect for the silliness. I like VTaK. Walken looks like he is enjoying himself, Tanya Roberts is so gorgeous, and the film feels like classic Bond, doesn’t take itself so seriously either. Jaws Raiders A.I. I liked the Santa Claus episode, despite the video tape. I read a rumor that there is time travel. Also that Rey assumes the name of skywalker. Wouldn’t it be a trip if she went back in time, to Tatooine, somehow lost all her memories or powers and assumed the name of Shmi Skywalker by the end of the film? Watch Akira Kurosawa’s Ran. Let me know what you think. :) The Birds sets a formula for these sorts of horror films - bland plot with characters nobody really cares about, then the big threat shows up, and the storyline is sidelined for the set pieces. Technically, The Birds is brilliant, but I can’t remember a thing about the human characters. Cloverfield follows the same formula. So does the recent Godzilla king of monsters. The mega cluster of daddy longlegs was a pretty creepy moment! This reminds me of the “naturally” portion of the classic baseball skit “Who’s on First?” By Abbott and Costello. On that note, I saw Diamonds are Forever as a kid and thought the 2 main henchmen were funny in a slapstick way. “Look mom 2 grown men holding hands ha ha ha...!” It was only later when I was older that I realized what the film was depicting. And... hm, thinking about Bambi and Thumper now.... and how they whupped 007’s derriere. She is the ONLY reason I would consider watching the next Bond film. Craig’s films are generally too depressing for me; he just doesn’t have a happy aura, unlike Roger Moore, who I’ve learned to appreciate more and more. I would submit that Citizen Kane and The Third Man have tremendous substance, but it is their very unique style that ultimately allows them to transcend into the rare realm of cinematic masterpieces. 300 I would group this film with Rocky Horror or Easy Rider. I think you just had to live in the era to best appreciate the film. I would have also included: Alfred Hitchcock Stanley Kubrick Terrence Malick Bram Stoker’s Dracula Shadow wasn’t bad but I liked Rocketeer better. It had Jennifer Connelly. It had some rocket-man too.. but really, it had Jennifer Connelly. So sad. I like Kara a lot. The K-pop industry puts too much pressure on its young stars. Just a month ago, Sulli from k(x), a sister act to Girl Generation, committed suicide, too. All acts that I followed... For me, all this hoopla has gotten me interested in watching the original CA. I have season 1 on disc, loved it, gonna revisit old memories. Not interested in the new movie, though.
