The State of Your Movie Collection

How would you describe the current state of your movie collection:

(a) Flawless - I can find any movie I want with ease.
(b) Partially under control - I have a rough idea where most movies are.
(c) Absolute chaos - finding a movie is a challenge.

I'm at (b) but I wish I was at (a) and I am sliding closer to (c).

I have no idea where my collectors edition of Friday is and I want to watch it - dammit.

All my media is organized. Movies are just alphabetical. Music is alphabetical, and chronological, and partially separated by types of music. My books are a little more messy. I have a few book rooms. Books which I know I'm keeping are all arranged the same way, and by genre. I have another spot of books I haven't read yet, and those are in order of what I want to read first. Then I have another place of books I have read and am not sure if I'm keeping them or donating them. Those aren't really in an order. I go through them about once a month and then either shelve them, or put them in my donate pile.

My physical collection isn't very big and I can find what I want easily.

My digital collection is huge and spans a few hard drives it might take me a while to find what I want.

reply

No real collection. If I want to watch something, I just rent it to stream.

If its not available to stream I curse Kowalski for being right about hard copy only.

reply

Somewhere between A and B.

I know where everything is, but the movies I'm less likely to watch are in crates above my closet, which are a pain in the ass to get down. My favorite and regular rewatches are on the bookshelf directly behind me though.

reply

I'd say B

But I can't think of the last time I used physical media to watch anything, most of my DVDs just sit in a draw gathering dust.

reply

Nearly nonexistent... a few hundred vinyl records and maybe 50-75 movies on DVD all in baskets down in the den area, I almost never use them. Lots of comics, about a dozen 'shorty white' boxes all in alphabetical order but dating back 25 to 50 years ago and boarded in plastic covers.

THE COMING OF CONAN🤣

reply

Twas quite common in the Hyborian Age.

reply

My earliest Conan comic is issue #6, it's in somewhat rough shape though.

reply

If I remember correctly, #2 was worth even more than the 1st one. Great comics!

reply

Possibly, I've been out of the comic market for a long time. I did preserve the collection in acid free boards, bags and boxes.

I may sell it all someday but they really beat you up at the comic shop!

reply

Don’t do it. I sold all of mine and I really do regret it these days. ☹️

reply

Yeah, they give you a few dimes on the dollar at the Comic joints.

reply

non-existent

reply

As a movie hoarder, I mean, collector, I am somewhat jealous.

reply

it is stress free. people who collect movies spend more time looking for movies than watching them. imo.

reply

There's something to be said for that.

Although it's nice to be able to watch a movie whenever you want and not be dependent on some third party.

THE HUNT IS HALF THE FUN.

reply

real estate is very expensive here

I TOTALLY GET PARKER'S JEALOUS COMMENT THOUGH...I SEE THE GLORY OF A CLUTTER FREE LIFE...I AM JUST INCAPABLE OF EMBRACING IT.
