If Dazed and Confused was made in 2022, it would be based in 2005

If Dazed and Confused (1993) was made today, it would be based in 2005 (1976)

Makes you feel old.

Based on my age, "my" Dazed and Confused film, would be set in 1992 as an incoming freshman, or 1995 as an incoming senior. The music would be awesome regardless of which year it is set in.

reply

That means the music would suck.

reply

Lol!👍

The music of 2005 was better than than the music of 1976...

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

And they said comedy was dead!

Either you're joking, or you know LITERALLY nothing about music.

reply

Well, I'm a full-time, and well-paid, professional DJ, so my job is to play great music. 1971 to 1977 was a dark age for music. Meanwhile, 2003-2008 was a high point. If you happen to enjoy the music of 1976, that's on you, but no need to insult me for stating an opinion, especially one shared by so many.

What would the 2005 version's soundtrack be? I really can't think of much mainstream music that's been held highly in regard from that era, unless ironically like Nickelback, Creed, Evanescence, Smash Mouth's "All Star", Limp Bizkit, etc. Stuff most people really don't like. I'd say 2003-2008 was a pretty uninteresting point in pop music. Mostly just club R&B, pop punk, really bad post-grunge, and the final heartbleeps of nu-metal and boybands. Before 2003 and after 2009, there was some pretty good stuff that has held up really well.

Out of curiousity, what songs would you use for the soundtrack if it were set in 2005? The only stuff I think i would like is Eminem, and he was at a lowpoint that year. Gorillaz were a great band releasing music that year. Otherwise, cant think of much.

Of course it's all one's personal taste, but 2003 to me was the start of a watershed period for music. In terms of rock bands, acts like Wilco, Arcade Fire, Belle and Sebastian, Iron and Wine, Blink-182, White Stripes, Franz Ferdinand, Bloc Party, The Killers, Old '97s, Bright Eyes, and so many more were redefining the genre, and proving that rock music could once again be relevant in night clubs as dance music. MF Doom, Danger Mouse, Gnarls Barkley, and Kanye West all released hip hop masterpieces during that time. On top of that, bands like The Knife, Hot Chip, LCD Soundsystem, MGMT and others were creating an entirely new genre of rock/electronic hybrid music, with literally dozens of artists releasing massive hits and reenergizing music fans. Jarvis Cocker went solo, Richard Hawley released some of his best work... I could go on. One could easily write a book about the vibrant changes in music that were happening in that period of time.

Oh man, a movie about teenagers in 2005 is not remotely interesting lol

reply

I doubt there's anyone who feels nostalgic for the mid-2000s. It would be a sad commentary on how youth has been wasted by too much screen time.

reply

People didn't see as much screen time in the mid-00's as they do today. There were no smartphones and no Facebook. Those who spent hours on the internet (like me) were regarded as introverted no-lifers back then. Nowadays I get annoyed by seeing people obsessively using their smartphones in public (even walking and biking with their faces attached to them).

reply

The culture in 2005 is not near interesting enough to make a movie about
