Truly most overated film of all time.

I have seen it three times trying desperately to figure out what makes this film so special but i just reached the conclusion that Fight Club is the most overhyped and overated film of all times since for some reason it is included in the top ten films in imdb.

I understand that everything is a matter of taste but i believe that if it wasnt for Brad Pitt and Edward Norton on the cover (although their acting in the film is both average to say the least) then this movie wouldnt be rated more than 7.5 at best.

Its one of David Fincher's weakest works and i cant believe its rated higher than Seven, The Social Network, Gone Girl and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.

I even found Panic Room and The Game more interesting than Fight Club even they are both preety average films.

I personally gave it a 6/10 and got rid of my original dvd copy.

I don't think it is overrated. Personally, I think Zodiac or Se7en is better. Though from all of Fincher's films, this ranks among the top three for me.

Hey Michael Galiastos, I couldn't agree with you anymore. This is a completely bleak plot almost as mono tone as Edward Norton "antivirus" narration. This film is about a psychotic, schizophrenic, wacko and everyone who is into it accepts this and rejects those who object it. Now where is the sense in this? I never understood from the first time I heard "the first rule of fight club is not to talk about fight club." How did so many clubs get started then? They are easily led robot zombie. Well, that's some lame ass excuse to be ever so clever, it is like saying I know a good film but the first rule of it being a film is to never tell anyone about it. Although it was good to see Jared leto get beat up, never the less, the phony pitifully plot is just well, depressing.

That's what everyone has done, someone told someone this film is good. It primes them to already accept it good, and if they watch it and come to perceive it as bad then their wrong and can't accept how consensus effect does not coincide. This internal conflict automatically makes the viewer like the film before they have already had the chance to see it. Quentin tarantino said he likes it so a lot of younger easily led robots think they have to like it too, cause if they didn't something is wrong with them. (Not disrespecting Tarantino in any way only his sycophant fans)

Notice how these people who claim this is such a good film fail to accurately state any one reason why they think it is good, they just bash you for having another opinion. to quote the movie "it is the best single serving" film that I can say is as mediocre as airplane cuisine.

Not overrated.

I can see why somebody may not like Fight Club. I personally love it. However, I have to say that even if I didn't like, I may still be able to understand the hype surrounding it.

The film has a lot of social comment. It's stylish. It's innovative. There are plenty of hidden details. The acting is great (I disagree with you about the acting being average). The plot twist works. The soundtrack's great. I could go on.

I personally find The Dark Knight to be the most overrated film in IMDb. It shouldn't be anywhere near the top 10. Actually, most Nolan films are incredibly overrated here. Memento remains his best film.

Nolan is probably my favorite mainstream director at the moment, but I have to agree with your comments about his film's ratings on here. I do appreciate his ambitions and think he is a standout amongst his contemporaries.

Hey, OP, you don't need to watch a movie you don't like 3 times in a few days just to understand "why" other people loved it so much. It doesn't work that way. You should wait for another 5 or 10 years, and then watch it again (well, if you're still alive that is). See if you like it then. If you still don't, forget about it or wait for another 5 years for next viewing. Good luck.

I saw this movie three times in the past 15 years, not in a few days ;)
