Truly most overated film of all time.

I have seen it three times trying desperately to figure out what makes this film so special but i just reached the conclusion that Fight Club is the most overhyped and overated film of all times since for some reason it is included in the top ten films in imdb.

I understand that everything is a matter of taste but i believe that if it wasnt for Brad Pitt and Edward Norton on the cover (although their acting in the film is both average to say the least) then this movie wouldnt be rated more than 7.5 at best.

Its one of David Fincher's weakest works and i cant believe its rated higher than Seven, The Social Network, Gone Girl and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.

I even found Panic Room and The Game more interesting than Fight Club even they are both preety average films.

I personally gave it a 6/10 and got rid of my original dvd copy.

This movie is not only not overrated, it's become criminally underrated, because so few people just keep reducing it to its plot twist and not looking at the bigger picture--a guy whose nervous breakdown is triggered by the appearance of a potential love interest because of how much having a relationship would change his life.

But ironically, it's not the fault of the haters that the movie is underrated. It's the fault of the lovers. The lovers didn't get that Tyler Durden is a villain and as a result, embraced him as a role model, then started promoting FC for the wrong reasons. Naturally, when even the fans are incorrectly raving about how genius the movie is because of how cool the villain is, people going by their word are going to take the movie the wrong way, too.

I don't see Tyler as a villain. He's more like a savior.....

reply

But you're not supposed to see him as a savior. He is the villain of the movie.

reply

Alter-ego?

reply

Yes, like Mr. Hyde of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde fame. Mr. Hyde is a Jack the Ripper-type serial killer who goes on murder and rape sprees. Dr. Jekyll creates him so he could get to feel what it's like to experience the evil side of himself.

reply

But isnt a villian. An alter ego is just a subconscious. We never actually see Tyler be a villain a necessary force for jack to enter maturity.

reply

Fight Club is actually a perfect movie.

reply

The abusing is quite unrealistic.

reply

It's not supposed to be realistic.

reply

I thought the whole movie was supposed to be realistic. Why make it into bare fist fights show up at work and have people paraplegic if they are going to make it unrealistic?

This Imdb thread has the most pretentious trolling of all time! From 4th post:
"Fight Club is widely considered to be one of the greatest films of all time. Not just by the general public but by critics too."

Metascore is 66. RT average is 7.4 but only 6.1 from top critics. Imdb rating plummets for 45+.
