Sure fire success if Mel came back

An older Max with Mel Gibson , now that would put bums on seats instead of yet another tiresome modern all so powerful lead woman movie zzzzz

I mean the franchise is based on Max after all...

reply

I mean he can finance himself spin-off about sad old Max. Shoot it for like 20 millions. Then get like 100K from few of his fans at the box-office.

It reminds me how fan boys were screaming about Firefly needing movie. Because it's so popular and what everyone wants. And then they shot a movie. And then it flopped because no one apart few fanboys actually wanted it.

Gibson is over. He is old and not young and pretty. Nobody cares to see him as old grumpy Max. Fanboys will write 1000 comments and likes on Twitter and no one will come and it would flop.

It would help if Mel were to drop some weight. Harrison Ford managed to reprise his role as Indiana Jones at the age of 80 but he’s still slim and, for his age, fit.

reply

Nah, we need Mel to be as burly as possible. He should be an unstoppable force prowling the wasteland. It’s absolutely bonkers that they think anyone wants to see a skinny chick play the lead in a Mad Max movie.

reply

A burly Mel would be acceptable, but not a bloated Mel with a big gut.

I would rather the sequels had focused on the Gyro pilot or feral kid rather than introducing a new female protagonist.

reply

Yeah, I’ve never understood the appeal of Furiosa. She has zero personality.

reply

he wasnt that unstoppable in the previous movies

reply

That’s only because he wasn’t burly enough.

reply

Replacing Mel Gibson in "Fury Road" is something I understood from a political side, but never from a filmmaking side.

reply

You'd think George Miller would've been able to bat for Mel but nope..

reply

I personally doubt that he even tried. Even if you are in Australia, you have to bow to the Hollywood power machine.

reply

In an alternate universe, it would have been EPIC:

Original Trilogy
MAD MAX (1979)
MAD MAX: THE ROAD WARRIOR (1981)
MAD MAX: BEYOND THUNDERDOME (1985)

Old Man Max Trilogy
MAD MAX: BLOOD FATHER (2015)
MAD MAX: BONEYARD (2024)
????????????????????

With Artificial Intelligence, and the ability to clone people and voices, it is only a matter of time until someone puts together a Mel Gibson in their own "Mad Max" AI film.

reply

There's early AI attempts at putting Mel in Fury Road (but he looks too young and obviously it dosnt look right yet) its only a matter of time before someone does an age appropriate Mel in the whole movie convincingly , same with putting Connery in OHMSS, Ford in Solo, the original Trek cast in the JJ Abrams Star Treks, Reeve in Superman Returns, Keaton in Batman Forever etc (like Mel in FR there's already several attempts on utube)

reply

We'll get there! 😊

reply

Yes. 10 more people would watch that movie. And it would make 150 dollars more. LOL.

reply

Gibson is a spent force. He has had too much controversy around him. And he is clearly no box office draw.

reply

The audience is different now. They couldn't care less for him or any other "dad's heroes".

reply

Apparently, Mel has a new film coming out in June called BONEYARD. (https://i.ytimg.com/vi/xI-bpGPE1wQ/maxresdefault.jpg) We should all go see it to give the middle finger to "Furiosa" and the pathetic direction George Miller has gone in.

Imagine how badass a film called "MAD MAX: BONEYARD" would have been!

Same thing with ditching Mel in 2015... apparently he made a kick-ass action movie that year called BLOOD FATHER. Again, just imagine... MAD MAX: BLOOD FATHER

reply

I hope you’re not driving.

reply

would all you guys bitching about this woman be happy if it was a man which wasnt Mel Gibson ?
and what if the character wasnrt called max?
Say he was called dave?
would that be alright ?
I'm just trying to work out where your insignificant problems with the character naming first manifests.

These films are not about the person behind the steering wheels , the environment is the main character
