So it's about a guy....who builds an atomic bomb? Nothing more, nothing less. I have a feeling it'll be something overly long and drawn out. Would this be getting the same amount of attention if Chris Nolan weren't directing it? I hear more about him than the movie itself.

shareLabyrinthine interconnected CGI Superhero movies, grisly supernatural horror, empowerment movies for one or more marginalized groups, Progressive-themed, lesson-based animation for children. That's about all that I see in theaters lately.
This is why 90% of my movie-watching involves pre-2000 films.
And that's why I enjoyed Mission Impossible 7. None of that crap except being a sequel (7th sequel). The movie was 100% entertainment. It focused more on being entertaining than being filled with agendas. Well, there IS strong female characters in it, but the movie allows you to like them and stuff. And they aren't calling Tom Cruise's character (Ethan Hunt) a POS the whole movie or they aren't saying some variation of "men suck and women are the best" throughout the whole movie. The women work with Tom Cruise's character. Everyone treats each other like equals in the movie. Mission Impossible 7 is a sequel that deserves money. And it's very rare for me to say something like that nowadays. The only movies (and sequels) I REALLY liked in 2023 (so far) is Extraction 2 and Mission Impossible 7. Fast & Furious 10 was okay, but it won't go in my best movies of the year list unless I can't come up with 10 movies and need something to complete the list. For now, Fast & Furious 10 is an honorable mention. All the other sequels though released in 2023, I either did not like or were at best "meh." The only 2023 superhero movie I liked in any capacity was Ant-Man 3. But I'd put that in the category as Fast & Furious 10.

shareIf its not too gimmicky and artifically sped up just because the director doesn't trust his own subject matter, I'm sure I'll enjoy it. I like long movies. I don't understand people who pay for a movie just to get out of the theater as soon as possible.

Absolutely right
It's a movie about one of the guys behind the atomic bomb, but the posters and advertisements are so edgy and psuedo-badass. Like wow, Nolan is trying so hard to make this nerdy scientist look like a badass Indiana Jones character in that poster. More tough guys in expensive suits making stoic faces like they are in an action movie. Basically more of the same from Nolan. You ever notice that he really loves buff guys walking around in suits? I think he has a fetish. You think he makes Mrs Nolan dress up in a suit and smoke a cigar in the bedroom? Nolan would make a Baywatch movie and make every lifeguard wear cocktail attire on the beach just because he loves his damn suits so much. Cant wait for every incel to start using Cillian Murphy's face with the cigar half hanging from his mouth for their "this is literally society" joker quotes.

Some of the reviews as well (particularly Empire’s review) are so pretentious. Empire’s review like ‘It’s a film you don’t merely watch, but must reckon with.’
These critics needs to calm down but I think they’re so in love with Nolan and after the awful Tenet they really want to emphasise how much this is Nolan’s comeback film and a masterpiece.
I like Nolan’s films for the most part, they are entertaining but for me he’s no Spielberg or Scorsese and Christopher McQuarrie is currently outdoing him in terms of action cinema with the Mission: Impossible films.

I know-- all he did was build the atomic bomb. Anyone could have done that, really. Had I been alive back then I'd have built it, as I'm sure you would have, too. There are sooo many topics more interesting than the story of the scientist who lead the project to create the most devastating weapon man has ever invented in a race against the Nazis, who were trying to build the same bomb first. What a snoozefest this will be. Isn't there anything with giant robots or space aliens coming out soon?
