CGI dwarves are okay but real actors are not?

After seeing the first image of Snow White it appears the Dwarves are CGI. CGI is okay but real "little people" actors are not? I'm sure there were actors who would glad take the roles as one of the seven dwarves. The actions of Uber PC Disney makes no sense here.

Like Micky from Sienfeld

reply

Yes, I know Hornswoggle from the WWE complained publicly about not being able to audition for one of the dwarve roles.

reply

You have a problem with that?

Are you dwarfophobic or something?

reply

It sounds like Disney is the one that is dwarfphobic when they refuse to hire actual dwarves.

reply

Good points. I mean, the roles are somewhat limited for them as it is.

Maybe some of them were calling it stereotyping to cast real life dwarves as the mythical type of dwarf? I don't know. I don't know anything anymore.

reply

The only actual dwarf I actually saw complain was Peter Dinklage, and I saw other dwarves come out and basically say STFU. Because as you say, the types of roles they will usually be offered is limited anyway. They don't want even more opportunities to be taken from them. Peter is rare in that he has gotten all sorts of roles over the years that dwarves usually wouldn't be offered--Tyrion Lannister, the children's author in Elf, and so forth--and I think he's lost touch with what it means to be a typical dwarf actor.

reply

YOUR POST IS A GREAT EXAMPLE OF WHY DINKLAGE FEELS THE WAY HE DOES ABOUT THESE ROLES...HE IS NOT A DWARF...A DWARF IS A FANTASY CREATURE...LIKE A LEPRECHAUN OR A FAIRY.

reply

According to the dictionary a dwarf is "a person with a usually genetic disorder resulting in atypically short stature and often disproportionate limbs."

Nothing fantasy about that. Peter Dinklage exists.

reply

So...Dinklage doesn't actually exist?

reply

Hi PrimeMinisterX!! How have you been?

"Peter is rare in that he has gotten all sorts of roles over the years that dwarves usually wouldn't be offered--Tyrion Lannister, the children's author in Elf,"

It makes sense that he and another little person would be offered these roles. The Tyrion Lannister character is a dwarf and the book editor was a character in a movie about Santa Clauss and elves.

The problem with Peter is that he pretty much pulled the ladder out from under other little people who had no problem with taking roles as gnomes, or dwarves or other such characters. He spoke as if he was speaking for all of them and Disney listened. 7 little people lost a chance at a role that could have brought them the success he has had.

It's sad to be honest and one of the main reasons I will never watch this movie. The number one reason why I won't is because I am sick of these remakes and have no interest in them 😊

Hey! I've been good. I've seen your posts around, but I remember you saying, if I remember right, that your son uses your account so I never know if it's him or you! I hope you're doing well.

And yes, I agree that, in claiming to speak for better treatment for his community, he is actually harming them. Is he actually even trying to be helpful or is he just virtue signalling? I don't know, but as you say, the seven dwarves of Snow White are roles tailor-made for dwarves to play and having those roles stolen away from that segment of the acting community, that's now seven dwarf actors who will be passed up for those roles. There are so few roles for those guys as it is, why take away what is actually available?

reply

DWARVES ARE FANTASY CREATURES...THERE ARE NO REAL LIFE DWARVES.

reply

I do believe dwarf is the preferred nomenclature. I watched a documentary about people with that particular condition.

Then again, these things are constantly changing, especially in current year. I may have missed a memo.

reply

DWARFISM IS ONE OF MULTIPLE CONDITIONS...USING THE TERM DWARF AS A CATCH ALL IS OFFENSIVE.

reply

I'm talking about the particular condition Dinklage and others like him have, though.

reply

HE IS A LITTLE PERSON...NOT A FANTASY DWARF.

reply

I bet your favorite scene in Spinal Tap is when the dwarf almost trods upon the Stonehenge Monument.

reply

Is too a dwarf.

reply

Are you a little person Kowalski?

reply

Being called little person is worse

reply

[deleted]

I believe so, that's why he is typing in all capitals.

reply

The preferred term is actually "little person / people". I just had to go edit my previous post 😁

reply

All part of the rich tapestry that is the boobytrapped eggshell minefield of woke.

reply

Little Peter didn't like it, and Disney doesn't want to piss him off, for some reason. He's got his career, so screw the other dwarf actors.

reply

Peter Dinklage selfishly ruined it for everyone else.

reply

Imagine trying to make Time Bandits today. Hollywood would gave a meltdown.

reply

They have made it. It's a new series being presented on Apple TV.

reply

Um... yikes. I'll get back to you. Have to re-watch the original first.

reply

It's already being criticized and here is why:

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1928307/mediaviewer/rm1483437057/?ref_=tt_mi_sm

reply

I saw the trailer. Looks massively overproduced, crap script and and no dwarfs. Even the B52's wonderful Roam gets the full orchestral remix and sounds shit.

reply

Little people are regular humans with a genetic condition, they aren't Dwarves.

Dwarves are a mythical race with certain characteristics.

I'm not being PC here.

I think Asians look like Elves, for instance. I mean that in a good way. But, it would be weird to put white wings and pointed ears on a bunch of Asians and say they are Elves. So, casting people with a growth disorder is also strange, in my opinion.

Peter Dinklage looks "Sleepy" so imagine him as the "Dwarf" Sleepy...I would feel sorry for him.

reply

They are called Dwarves in the title.

reply

It is odd how little people playing short characters like dwarves is problematic according to the "don't call them woke" people.

Usually they want characters played by actors who are the thing they are playing. With the exception of straight white people of course. A gay person playing straight or casting a non white actor to play a traditionally white character, even a historical character, is supposed to be celebrated.

Ah well. Crazy days.
